It’s upsetting to go into a place if business and the 1st thing you deal with is the host person with an unpleasant greeting attitude.
Then we sit down my son and I, and we have a table of 4 young ladies literally in front of us talking loud, using profanity, mind you this is a place where families come with their children. I didn’t appreciate that at all. So I said, “hey!” I’ve noticed they was taking to the owner. I met the owner previously in other occasion I have eaten there, So instead of him telling her to reframe from using that type of language, she continued on.
Then the host comes over to my table ask me to place my order, so my son and I get up and walk over to the register and begin to place our order. Before we start placing our order the host advises me that there will be a surcharge of a $1.00 or more on with debit card transaction. Mind you, it has already been established and prohibited in the state of CT for any business to charge any surcharge for using a debit card on any purchases. I made that aware to the host, and she gets all red on the face and becomes uneasy at this point, by saying “it’s the business establishment policy.” Well, I reiterated the Connecticut state law prohibits any type of transactions like these are not legal. I politely requested to speak to the owner only because I have built a report with her on the many times I have visited the business on many different occasions.
I addressed my concern on the topic of the surcharges and asked why is this being practiced. Her reply was “we charge so that way you’ll be able to get the discounted prices.” (Something to that sort). It didn’t make any sense what so ever. Then I’ve noticed the sane young lady who was using profanity language was getting involved in the conversation. I had to address her and tell her the conversation did not involve her. Her reply “it fired cause the owners are my parents.” At this point I’ve decided to leave with no intentions of ever returning. While I’m talking the the owner Lucy, she saids, that’s my daughter.”
I’ve noticed the young lady was getting g a bit cocky and loud and once again I had to remind the conversation was not with her.
The owner clearly showed me they tolerate that type of behavior in their Business establishment. I excused...
Read moreI don’t know if I have enough time to detail the experience here. New to area, trying every place regardless of reviews. Man…..I wish I would of read the reviews. The potential for greatness is within reach, but the managerial decisions are sub par. I walk in with wifey and 4 kids. They seat us, give us paper menus and ask if we want plastic silverware or “real”. Umm ok. Real please. I would say server asked be we didn’t get served… person asked if we ever been here. No. Reply, you have to order at the front. Ok fine. After remembering 6 orders. I go up. Order the food. Then the drinks. Water: tap or bottle? Order chocolate milk, which was awesome because it came out of a premade gallon. Coffees. I get empty cups for water and coffee cause it is self serve. Ugh. Really. Ok cool. No Splenda. Only pink sweetener. No blue either. Coffee was like hot water with mild coffee flavor just sitting in a self brewer. Got my 2yr old a mini waffle $3. So food and drink for 5 others averaged $15 total was $79.32. Oh. The nice sign at the register that states “ Our prices have risen and are not reflected on the menu” just wow. The two girls running around. I hope they are getting minimum wage, because they aren’t serving. They ran the food from the kitchen to the table. Didn’t take orders, drinks what ever good service entails. I left a small tip because 4 kids aren’t elegant eaters but I wanted to leave $0.00 because tips are for service which you do not get at all here. Food was good. Idk if it was great. Huge pancakes. Nice chicken and waffle. The two omelets I ordered tasted good but didn’t look good. Paper thin, ingredients were placed inside, not cooked into eggs, before it was rolled over. Potatoes weren’t hot but the flavor was good. Crispy. I have an extra star because the food was decent, but man. The experience of serving myself and ordering make it not worth the trouble. $80 to serve myself and my fam in a dark and dingy location with mediocre options. Don’t get me wrong. The menu on its own, is solid. But the BS of ordering and paying ahead is dumb. What if I need a comp item. Now I need a refund. Poor judgment on the management. I’ll probably never return. Too bad. Another bad experience on the...
Read moreI can not express the sheer confusion and disorganization the Sloppy Waffle demonstrates, but I will try.
When you arrive, you wait in line to be seated; my wait was 8 minutes. Then, you are seated and give a menu. Once seated, you are told to go wait in line to order at the register; this turns out to be the SAME line you just waited in to be seated! Total time before we ordered took about 25 minutes. You pay at the register (GF options have an additional charge), and I chose not to tip because I was already annoyed.
My food was nothing to write home about either. The GF Chicken thigh and Waffle was absolutely dry, bland, and flattened (chicken), the Waffle was not crisp to contrast the chicken and hold the syrup, and the home fries were russet potatoes, which seemed boiled first and warmed on the grill; they were basically mashed potatoes with no seasoning. The syrup came on the chicken, not the waffle, but was not enough. When I asked for more syrup, I was given about a tsp in a small cup. The food was served on paper plates with heavy duty plastic ware.
My cousin got an omelet and said it was good, but her non-GF waffle was rubbery.
The staff never came back to the table, after the food arrived, my food came first, then my cousin's. So, I was lucky to get additional syrup.
The staff wore black workout pants or leggings with a black shirt, I never saw hand washing when staff went from the front of the house to the back.
All drinks are pre-made, placed in the refrigerator, and given when you pay. I could see that the orange juice was separating in the cups and no alternating of newest to oldest juice occurred while I was there. Bottle water options.
I was excited to try this restaurant from all the previous reviews, but I was severely...
