Heard about Golden Rabbit through the foodie grapevine—everyone kept talking about how their pho broth was different. Curiosity got the better of me, so I packed up my family of five and made the 90-minute trek from Marina del Rey to Balboa Island. When we arrived, I expected a big flashy restaurant. Instead, it looked like a cozy boba shop with a few tables outside. But don’t let the size fool you—this place delivers. Because there were five of us, we ordered five dishes family-style, and I’m glad we did. Everything was fantastic, but a few standouts deserve special mention: Filet Mignon Pho – Believe the hype. The broth really is different and in the best way possible. Chicken Curry – Comforting, hearty, and unique. A soupier vermicelli style that reminded me of the dishes I grew up with in Indonesia. My personal favorite. Shrimp Vermicelli, Wok-Seared Beef Rice, and Crispy Egg Rolls – All excellent, and honestly hard to rank because they were each that good. If you come, bring friends and order family-style so you can try a little of everything. One last note: my kids were obsessed with the brown sugar boba milk tea. They loved it so much we actually came back 20 minutes later to grab another round. According to my teenagers, it’s a must. Bottom line: Golden Rabbit is small, unassuming, and absolutely worth the drive. We’ll be back—no hesitation.

The Golden Rabbit is a wonderfully affordable stop for a refreshment break or a quick meal while visiting the beach. After trying the beef vermicelli for an early lunch, during my island stroll last Saturday, and finding the ingredients fresh, healthy, and tasty, I decided to take home another beef vermicelli, a shrimp vermicelli, crispy egg rolls, and shrimp spring rolls. Those dishes also tasted amazing for dinner. I didn't try the specialty beverages but overheard the other customers, from the Balboa Island neighborhood, telling Mysa, the restaurant owner, that they had a craving for her coffees in the previous evening so had to stop by as soon as they could. The prices were especially attractive for a restaurant on the popular island and within a 10-minute walk to the ocean.

They are so friendly.. they asked me how my golden rabbit milk tea tasted, and after I commented it was a tad too sweet, they instantly re-made my drink with no extra cost, and let me keep the original! Their prices are very reasonable, and pretty low considering the area! I got a milk tea, and two entrees for just over 30 dollars! Definitely coming back next time I visit.

This is the best Vietnamese Restaurant in Orange County. The food is tasty, the ingredients are fresh, customer service is phenomenal. My favorite is the beef vermicelli. The beef is tender and savory, noodles are fresh, and vegetables are refreshing. This mix is full of flavor with a freshly made taste that is worth going out of the way for! I also really enjoy the Vietnamese iced coffee because it is served cold and has a pleasant taste that goes down easy almost like an iced cold chocolate drink. Inside and outside seating that allows for a relaxing time on the island. The menu is perfect sized that has a variety of items on the menu including boba, egg rolls, appetizers, baguettes and chicken plates. I can’t wait to try it all. Their owner and staff are a wonderful and I’m so glad they created this offering at...
