Spent last weekend in Newport, Rhode Island and after hearing all your recommendations, here are the places we decided to try! š @bar.cino.newport which was probably the most recommended restaurant, we liked the grilled pizza, Tuscan kale, warm olives and the chicken Milanese š @22bowens for steakhouse vibes right on the water š @theblackpearlrestaurant mudslides are a must get here and you can sit in their heated outdoor patio š @whitehorsetavern is said to be the nationās oldest restaurant (thereās some debate) wait to see our thoughts on if itās iconic or overrated š @thenitrobar_ has 2 locations in Newport and has got to be one of the best coffee and breakfast options in town š @crucafe was packed and makes a killer BEC on a Portuguese bolo bread ⢠⢠⢠⢠#sistersnacking #sistersnackingrhodeisland #rhodeisland #newport #newportri #newportfood #newportrhodeisland #northeast #newengland #newenglandfood #topfood #ctfoodie #rhodeislandfoodie #eatthis

I had the opportunity to dine at 22 Bowen's on Easter Sunday, April 17 2022. I made reservations, of course, and the place was full. Michael was our waiter. It was nice to have an experienced waiter. He said that he had been a waiter for more than 15 years and you could tell. He was very attentive, knew the menu and had good suggestions. He knew how to interact with the diners. My dinner partner really liked him. I am not much of a seafood eater but I decided to have the 22B Clam Chowder. It was actually fantastic. In addition to potatoes and clams, it had bacon to add a special flavor to its creamy texture. We paired dinner with a bottle of Malbec, Domaine Bousquet from Argentina and an Espresso Martini. Very nice and it went with the appetizer and the main courses, as well crab salad, oysters on-the-half shell and shrimp that we were given because of a delay in our main courses. We got our beef on with a 14oz Prime New York Sirloin and a 18oz Prime bone-in Delmonico steak. Cooked to perfection as far as I was concerned, maintaining tenderness and not dry. Our sides were French fries and RI Mushroom Fricassee. Both were very complimentary with the steak. What a meal. After a fine meal, dessert was Chocolate Peanut Butter Torte. One can never go wrong with chocolate and peanut butter with a scoop of ice cream on the side. The atmosphere was great with water views that I had requested. Service was five-star in my book, thanks to Michael, and the food was four to four and one-half stars. This was not inexpensive BUT well worth it. I would not hesitate to eat there again or to recommend 22 Bowen, especially for a romantic dinner with a nice walk afterward because of the location.

Visited Newport for a wedding/vacation and this was the ONE meal we were really anticipating especially as parents who donāt get out often but have high standards in the food and beverage industry. š The view, the service and the ambiance were beautiful. It was the 4th of July so lots of foot traffic and people watching outside which we love. The hosts were also so friendly and so accommodating even the moment I made my reservation a month in advance. Our server, I unfortunately cannot remember his name for the life of me but he was AWESOME! Super knowledgeable, friendly and really owned his section. Everyone was loving him. Unfortunately the food fell super short for us. The raw oysters and clams were obviously fresh and clean. The pork belly feature DEFINITELY needed another 24 hours to cook. It was beautiful to look at but my lawd it was tough as heck. Not a piece of it was tender one bit. The mussels I was really dreaming of loving so much because down south they are hard to find. The mussels themselves were cooked perfectly but the broth was water with fennel/onion in it. No flavor there sadly. The pork chop was definitely the highlight of the evening as well as the gratin side dish we ordered with it. All in all the price of what we paid definitely was not worth it for the food we had. This was also our first meal in Newport so we lowered our expectation unfortunately after. Again, service and ambiance was incredible and this place was consistently booming. Oh our food runner was also super friendly and knowledgeable with a great sense of humor! Great wine and cocktail list!

Getting two stars only because the food we ordered was delicious (although they could dress up the $100 A5 Miyazaki Wagyu flight a little bit more than just putting three pieces of meat on a plate with some watercress). We had a great experience at the host stand and interacting with other employees on our way to the table. Unfortunately, this is where the service ceased to be great, or even good for that matter. Our server asked if we would like some water to which we replied, that would be great, thank you. We waited for 10+ minutes before he returned only to ask us ādid I not get you water?ā It only went downhill from there. The water came and my wife ordered a Coke, he did not even ask me if I wanted a drink. The soda came back, and as he started to turn away, I stopped him so I could order my drink. When my drink made it to the table we ordered our appetizers and I asked a question about the meal I was planning to order and how it was plated, as well as ordering a glass of wine I planned to pair with my $100+ entrĆ©e. We did not see our server again until our appetizers were finished. At that point we ordered our entrĆ©es and started our wait once again. Needless to say the attentiveness was lacking, although we saw him being very friendly with every other table in our section, attending to them multiple times, before he asked us how our food was, how everything was going, can I get you anything? As a matter of fact, I do not think he asked us how our food was until we were almost finished. The entrĆ©es arrived and, very shortly there after, so did our server asking how everything looked. We said everything looked great but we havenāt tasted it yet. He then disappeared for at least 15 minutes attending to all the other tables in the section again (some tables multiple visits) before finally coming back to us and asking how everything was. This is when I got to remind him about my glass of wine I wanted to have with my meal. He returned with the wine but no apology again. We finished our meal and left thinking that maybe we did something wrong to deserve the cold shoulder he was giving us. But, unfortunately, it was just a case of really, really, terrible service which is even more disheartening because we saw others right next to us getting what seemed like fantastic service from the same server.

We went to 22 Bowenās Wine Bar & Grille last weekend and were delighted by the food, ambiance, and service. Itās situated in a fantastic spot on Bowenās Wharf to enjoy the Newport sunshine, sea breeze, and people-watching from the patio. Every course was excellent. I started with the oysters of the day (Walrus & Carpenter) and they were all bright, clean, and fresh. For lunch, I got the hot buttered lobster roll which served on a perfectly griddled roll. If someone in your party likes lobster, they should really get this, because it truly was *superb.* Everyone enjoyed their mealāfrom the classic burger to the BBQ chicken flatbread. Of note, are their fantastic beer-battered onion rings which you should absolutely order as side or swap out for fries because they are a show-stopper. They only lost a star because of table bussing hiccup. When I was taking a break from my lobster roll, I became mildly annoyed when two different table bussers came up to me in a span of what felt no more than two minutes to ask if I was done. I appreciate that they were trying to do a good job, and I expect there was some miscommunication, but I felt like I was being rushed out as a result. Perhaps this could be fixed by assigning one busser instead of two to a section of tables? Compared to everything else it was a minor service blip; especially because our waitress was kind, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout lunch. The food is truly excellent, and we are all looking forward to returning again over the summer. P.S. If you are worried about a wait, they take reservations on OpenTable!
