The staff was very unfriendly and not helpful. Did not explain the area and seemed annoyed to answer questions. They will tell u that u will have plenty of time to tour mansions on the tours offered. This is untrue and confirmed to me when we went into the breakers. The lady taking the tickets asked me how long we had. I told her and she said oh good they are figuring out people need more time. The tours are worth your time and money but I would only take the scenic tour first and then tour the mansions on your own. We did not have time to see all of the mansion grounds or listen to additional information on the audio tours. Our tour guy was very knowledgeable and told us more than the visitors staff. As a former group travel planner, I was lucky enough to interact with this great group of people over an 8 day period in September. Since I used exclusively public transportation while here, I depended on them for the success of my vacation. Each and every employee went out of their way to greet me with enthusiasm, helpfulness, and informed ideas with humor each day. They became family by the end. We parked at the Newport Visitors Center because we were taking a Viking narrated trolly tour. Because we are from New York state, and this was a first trip to. Newark R. I. For either of us, we parked at the Visitors Center parking ramp. We were parked for approximately 6 hours. Upon leaving we stopped to pay our fee and we were charged $17 for approximately 6 hours. This is outrageous, even by New York standards. Because of your driving patterns, outrageous parking fees and tolls I am quite sure neither of us will ever travel to this area again or recommend it to any of our friends.
