I had the unfortunate experience of dining at BarAMor in Newton Center recently, and I must say, I was thoroughly unimpressed. The restaurant's prime location, right across from the subway line, is the only positive aspect of this establishment.
A group of friends and I decided to give this place a try for dinner, and it turned out to be a decision we would come to regret. We ordered steak tips, expecting them to be cooked rare, as requested, but what we received were well-done hockey pucks. The salmon dish, while passable, was on the drier side, lacking the flavors and tenderness one would expect from a decent restaurant. Even the children in our group were dissatisfied with the offerings from the kids' menu, which is never a good sign.
The abysmal service at this restaurant is something worth noting. We were seated for a good 15-20 minutes before anyone bothered to acknowledge our presence. After finally getting the server's attention, he took our drink orders but then informed us that we'd have to wait an additional 20 minutes before he could take our food orders due to the kitchen being busy. In about 30 minutes our food orders were finally taken, and we sat impatiently for almost an hour to receive our meals, which, as previously mentioned, were far from satisfying.
The only redeeming quality of BarAMor is its selection of unique drinks, especially beer, which was the only aspect of the evening that didn't disappoint. If you're in the mood for some good drinks and perhaps some fries, and don't care about the service, this place might suffice. However, if you're looking for a decent meal, ambiance, and attentive service, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere. Fortunately, there are plenty of better dining options in the area, so do yourself a favor and avoid the disappointment that BarAMor...
Read moreTHIS PLACE IS AMAZING! I come to the Newton Center often, over many years. I have gone to college in the area, along with knowing many people that work in the area. Now that many I years have passed on from my college days, I was recommended to this place by a waitress I know, and I would say it was the one of the best reccomendations, I had for this area. I was instantly greeted by, Nick, one of the bartenders. I always like to just see what the staff would recommend for drinks and food, instead of just going off the menu. Nick not only knowledge about the menu, but was also recommend me my drinks and what I should try for eats. He took me on a "journey" which, I still use as a reference to this day. Every drink was made to perfection along with being accompanied by great conversation. Sean was also very attentive and affirmed great food to try and even went out of his way to change one of the channels on the television for me (on a Friday night) to something more to my taste. The chef, Tess, greeted me and made my food to perfection, which I even took home for more additional food, to enjoy later. From my experiences, even though it m has not not of been open for that long, it gives off the vibe that it has been a staple of the community, from even before I was around, from greeting you as soon as you walk in, knowledgeable/talented staff, attentiveness, delicious food/drinks, and great/friendly conservation. I would recommend this place to my best friend, as well as to my parents. I would say if you are new to the area, or even just a local, trying to figure out where to end their night, definitely make this place one of your stops. Food and drinks are great and the staff here make it even more of an experience. Have a great time. Enjoy a good night...
Read moreA new restaurant in Newton? Sure, we’ll try it out!!
My wife and I went to lunch at Baramor on 6/1/19, a couple of weeks after they opened up in the old Terry O’Reilly’s/Sabra space in Newton Centre.
The decor has been freshened up from the Terry O’Reilly’s location but still maintains the funky interior of the former restaurant.
We were greeted by the friendly bartender and took a table in the general bar area. The ambience was casual and was pretty busy for a Saturday afternoon.
After getting settled in we were handed the menu and the selection was quite nice, not dozens of items, but a nice set of interesting choices.
I ended up ordering the Philly Cheesesteak which was a slightly spicy twist on the traditional version and it didn’t disappoint. My wife got the black bean burger and said it was great. Complementing the sandwiches were excellent fries for my wife and parmesan fries for me.
The service by the same bartender was excellent and he was fun to chat with. The prices were on the high side of average, but reasonable considering the quality of the food and the Newton Centre location.
We didn’t drink, but the beer selection looks quite nice and other tasty items on the menu will have to wait for our next trip.
Baramor is definitely a place you’ll want to try if you like casual food with good service in a nice central Newton...
