Food is good, if a bit overpriced (about standard for a bar/restaurant attached to a hotel at this bracket).
[Edit: The atmosphere is exceptional (five stars). The food is very good, and is not overpriced beyond what is standard for venues of this type (venues of this kind with a hotel association, etc, tend to be very expensive when compared to otherwise similar venues). I did not intend to infer otherwise. The service (aside from the altercation) was good, and the bartender we were dealing with was considerate enough to offer an apology though we find no fault with him. The rest of the staff was a delight, and very positive. The team went out of their way at the beginning of the evening to make sure my group had a good amount of space and special consideration. The interaction below was only with the owner of the venue.]
I was hosting a social event on 5/4 with my group. It was a light costume event, and one of my customers - a young woman in her mid-twenties - was approached by a man in his late fifties to early sixties. He told her that she and the rest of my group were dvil worshipers and stanists, and deserved to de or go to hll.
After this was brought to my attention, I approached the man and convinced him to leave the group alone. He was severely intoxicated, but we spoke calmly. In the middle of this, the male bartender started shouting at me to stop speaking with him, and before I could even respond to the bartender, another man (I later found out was the owner), physically pushed me back. The other man was escorted out of the bar.
The owner told me that he had to make sure the other man was safe (they made no effort to provide the same assurance of safety to the young woman that was part of my group.)
My group was hosting this event at the bar as a sort of litmus test to see if we would return for future events. This unfortunate situation took place at about 12:45 AM - 15 minutes before the venue closed.
It is only Monday the 6th, but I have not heard from the bar and my group - including the young woman directly affected - was not given an apology or any additional consideration. I am deeply disappointed.
My group will not be returning until I and my customer receive an apology for the unwarranted physical contact from the owner, and the preferential treatment the abusive man received over myself and...
Read moreI've only been down this road once prior out of my hundreds of reviews. But, when I fly from Los Angeles to Boston being sold a hotel room with an open restaurant in a clean room, I kind of expect that. I don't think that's too much to ask. Upon arrival I found that the restaurant was closed to a private party for the night. This was at 4:00 p.m. during their advertised open hours and there was absolutely no one inside. I was simply turned away by staff. You'll find later, that I was also turned away when the private party was over during operational hours and still turned away. That's at midnight when I was kind of lightheaded from low blood sugar throughout the day.
Maybe that could have been okay except that I was starving at that point and needed to meet somebody else there for a late lunch before a theater play. They're closed restaurant didn't really hurt anyone or cause anyone to starve to death. But, it was an extraordinary inconvenience and I did go hungry for that play and when I returned the party wasn't even there anymore and they still still turn me away before closing time. There was only one person at the front desk, only one person in charge of the entire hotel, plenty of staff in the restaurant.
Okay that sucked, but when I went upstairs and saw the grossness of my room I began to wonder if I should be asking for a refund. Yes some of the pictures I've attached show dirty Wash clothes and wet toilet rolls. Wash cloths with brown gross stuff on them. Toilet paper rolls with wet fingerprints on them. Super duper not cool. This review marks only the second review of my entire career that is not on the positive side. That should tell you something. You can come here but you don't know what you're going to get, and chances are that won't be food and a clean room. I wanted to start crying but there was only one or two decorative tissues in the Kleenex box. Got to be...
Read moreMy family and I decided to have our New Years day brunch there. We arrived to find the heat was broken and were very cold. The management staff did their best to accommodate by getting a space heater until the issue was resolved. The waitstaff was really nice and she tried hard to make the best of the situation.
The kitchen staff is where everything fell short. The menu was not properly written as it said one of the dishes we ordered came with white beans but had garbanzo beans instead, which is an issue as the person who ordered the dish doesnt like garbanzo beans, my grilled english muffin tasted like it was made out of salt and completely inedible and my tostada had hair in it. Some of the food was presented in a way that was sloppy and the hollandaise sauce was made incorrectly and was closer to scrambled eggs than a nice egg sauce. When charging the prices this place does for eggs it should be and better be perfect. Instead it was no better then bickfords. The food issue should not have happened as they did and if this is the quality of food service that Social plans to present to its customers we will not return.
I want to reiterate that The service staff, bar staff, and management did what they could to be as accommodating as possible and this review is not a reflection on the front of house service quality. This review is solely for the kitchen staff and its poor showing of talent. Hollandaise is a basic mother sauce that any first year cook should be able to pull of blindfolded. I have over 20 years experience in the industry and know what it takes to do things right and this kitchen staff did not hit that mark. I should have went with my other choice of...
