Agaves grill — Restaurant in Nicholasville

I've been coming here for lunch few months. Service is typically fast and food is good.

Over the last 6 to 8 weeks there had been multiple times my ticket price for a "Fajita Chicken Taco Salad" was inconsistent with the menu price ($8.79). A few times I paid the difference and didn't say a word, the other times I asked and they (even the owner once) corrected same.

Today is the final straw for me. I came in at 12pm and order my usual, Fajita Chicken Taco Salad. The same thing I order every time and the same thing I've order no less than 30 times previously. The same two women wait staff.

Today, I got my ticket and my salad was today $11.99. I kindly pointed this out to Maria, and she told me I "ordered the dinner portion. You didn't state lunch portion."

My response to her, "Is it not lunch time? Would it not be assumed it was lunch? Additionally, there was no way that was dinner size as it was tiny."

Her response was "No, most people order dinner but I'll go check."

She came back and told me that they would give me the lunch price this time but next time I needed to specify. I told her, nope I'll pay what you believe I owe but I'll never be back. That was not a dinner salad.

Indeed, the size and portion was the exact same small size as all my 30+ prior times.

Nope. Lost a loyal customer over this. Honor your menu prices. Train your staff and be honest about the size of the meal.

If this were my first time at Agaves, the first price discrepancy or my first time with this waitress, I would understand. I would mark it up to a misunderstanding or mistake on their part....but no, no mistake.

I'll be supporting other businesses going forward for my daily lunch...

I like this place and have been here several times. But on this particular evening with my girlfriend we ordered the Molcajete. Which includes steak chicken shrimp chorizo fried cactus and a smoke jalapeno. When I order this the last time I was by myself and gotten a large plate of refried beans with a large plate of fried rice and then another large plate of guacamole sour cream pico de gallo and lettuce. For some reason when I ordered it with my girlfriend I had half the portions that I had prior the last time I was there. There was two pieces of steak but only one this time two pieces of chicken and only one piece also list shrimp less chorizo less refried beans and rice on one plate with guacamole sour cream and pico de gallo together. Also the reason I give it three stars this time around is because I ordered two big margaritas and she comes back with two small ones and then the second time I order a big Modelo and she brings me a dos Equis Amber. Nonetheless I enjoyed the food and the beverages and still gave a good tip. But I hope this tip will be worth more than the $5 or $6 that we left. Consistency is everything when you have a restaurant in Nicholasville. Word of mouth gets around and I don't want to bash you because I like you and you have great food and you're good people. LISTEN, I moved to KY from Denver and have YET to find a good Mexican restaurant UNTIL I FOUND AGAVES! So.. I got off work and when I got home.. realized I had locked myself out of the 🏠. HA! So instead of freaking out I told myself a margaritas would solve this problem (GOTTA let logic go sometimes 😆) So I started driving around looking for a new mexican restaurant. I've tried so many, I was beginning to think Taco Bell was the spot! HAAAHA!!! When I walked in to Agaves, it was slow. Monday, 2 pm? It's bound to be. So as soon as I sat down, hot chips and salsa were served immediately! The lady whipped up a BOMB margarita YUMMM and by time she came back I KNEW I WAS HAVING TACOS!!! YUMMM!!! Here I thought $12 was $4 a taco.. whatever I'm from Denver, tacos there are $7 each right? SO I NEARLY WENT INTO SHOCK when this HUGE plate comes out, plating was great! I wanted to dig in!!!! OHH.
