The customer service I experienced here was truly horrific right from the moment I entered the bakery. There was no welcoming atmosphere, and it was evident that the staff had no interest in assisting my family.

To make matters worse, it was my mother's first time visiting, and she faced difficulties understanding English. When my mom asked about the pastries, instead of providing a helpful response, the staff member completely ignored her and attended to other customers. It was a blatant display of disregard and insensitivity, which seemed to stem from a racially biased reaction.

Despite these initial disappointments, I decided to proceed with my plan to quickly grab some pastries and leave for a graduation party . However, my expectations were shattered when I asked for a sample. The staff member responded in the rudest manner imaginable, going on a lengthy tirade about how she couldn't keep providing samples. It was an unnecessary and disrespectful reaction that left me feeling both shocked and humiliated. Denying a sample isn’t a issue and completely understandable, but the rude manner was completely wrong.

Throughout the entire time there, the staff member rushed us, displaying a complete lack of patience and professionalism. In an unfortunate exchange, I reciprocated her impoliteness when she was ringing us up. Predictably, she seized the opportunity to be even ruder, using my response as an excuse for her continued unpleasant behavior.

Save yourself the anguish, time and money and find a bakery that appreciates their customers and values providing a...

I have been to this place three times before I wrote this review. The people are consistently unfriendly, cold and makes you feel like you said the wrong stuff or asked the question the wrong way etc. I got a variety of pastries for my staff some were good some were whatever.. Very ordinary. Yes the place has this Polish/German bakery look but these are plentiful in this neighbourhood. What is gonna make you different? It should be friendliness... But they consistently flunked this department... I wont be going back also because I am very particular about my croissant... It was stail!!! This is why I did not go to Dunk in donuts across the street because I really enjoy a crisp, freshly baked croissant in the morning... If you are a bakery and you dont see a problem selling old croissant, why should you be any different? Flunked again and again... Unfortunately if you have developed taste buds and you are used to good stuff because we live in this kind of city, you are not gonna make it as "good" in my book... Keep on serving mediocracy with an attitude... a smile is not too much to ask... I am...

I loved the cake very moist but dont get chocolate fudge on top of custard it was to hard while everything else was moist and good but that's my fault 4 picking that! The cake was just a little different from what I wanted a better Michael Myers face his face was to big for the cake and his nose looks like Michael Jackson and a jokers smile and is that a hole under his lips?? Why was that there? Also the ear looks funny sticking out it's on the cake which made it look funny and everyone laughed at it! I didn't say anything cuz it was day of his bday and I did ask my boyfriend if it looks good but in a way we're it didn't look rite so I took the cake anyways cuz I needed it, but the taste of the cake was really good and moist..o and another thing was the eye brows they look like zig zags what I wanted was the 1st cake not the 2nd they dont look alike at all! For the price of the cake I should of got what I wanted! But I'm gonna give them a 2nd chance because I did love the taste...

If you find yourself in Lincolnwood, there’s a cute little bakery right on Touhy called Schlegl’s. Opened since 1998, this bakery and cafe has been serving up some delicious German and European bakeries. As well as some American bakes too Doughnuts, pastries, cookies, cakes galore - you could just feel deliciousness. So I went pretty hard on this - started with a Bavarian pretzel. Honestly, it might have been one of the best pretzel’s I’ve had - nice chewy exterior, plush interior, right amount of salt. And that color. Moved onto the Linzor cookies, which I think are Austrian in origin, but popular in Germany. These are traditionally filled with a jam filling - short, melty and crumbly. Subtly sweet - as they should be! And then strudel - so these were marked Hungarian strudel, I asked the difference and I guess uses a different dough, I liked this strudel - definitely a flaky, crisp crust. The filling was sweeter and reminded more of like American apple pie, where as the other ones I’ve had include raisins and have a lemony taste. Good, but I think I like that other type of filling personally. Got a loaf of bread too. Ok, this is a bakery worthwhile - if you’re in those near North suburbs, definitely worth becoming a regular here. 3915 W Touhy Ave, Lincolnwood, IL 60712 #chicago #bakery #german #american #lincolnwood

An update to my previous review of Schlegl's Bakery. I ordered a cake from here for my 50th birthday party and I couldn't have been happier. I loved, how my cake turned out. The experience was wonderful from start to finish. I worked with Sue and she was so helpful and professional. She understood what I wanted and worked with the bakers to bring it about. The finished product was fabulous and my guests really enjoyed the cake. They said it was not only beautiful but delicious as well! I will use Schlegl's again for sure. Great! Great selection of donuts and at nearly 5 pm on a Saturday, they were still fresh. Decent coffee too.
