a hopefully comprehensive review for vegans and non vegans !!!
since i'm vegan, i can only give my honest opinon on the vegan options at cogan's, but since i've eaten with my non vegan roommates i'll add their input as well. to start, the food is relatively expensive, not including the upcharge for vegan items. my roommate's bill typically totals around $25 (tax included) for two appetizers. including the pizzas, which are usually around $20-$25, the total bill can easily add up to $50. for vegan items, the prices are even more expensive. to add vegan toppings, it's an additional $4.99 per topping, which can mean you're paying an extra $10-$15 for toppings on your pizza (this is if you're doing the build-your-own option). this wouldn't be much of an issue if the quality was worth it, but if you're not ordering from inside the restaurant (and through another service), the quality can and likely will be drastically worse, and the toppings will be sparse despite the amount you've paid. i've also had a select few occurrences where i was accidentally given real meat.
is the quality worth the high pricing? well, yes and no. since vegan options are very limited on campus, cogan's is the only (and by default the best) restaurant i can go to that serves vegan subs and pizzas. their vegan subs and fries are especially good, and i'd recommend those to anyone who wants food but doesn't want to pay $25 for a "16 pizza. and, despite the pricing, the vegan pizza is pretty good. at its best the daiya cheese is melted wonderfully, the toppings are generous, and the dough is light and fluffy. at its worst, the toppings are sparse and the tomato sauce is chunky. though the pizza is delicious, i do wish the pricing was a bit easier on my wallet.
my advice? do NOT order cogans through grubhub, doordash, or any third party delivery service. the already high prices combined with various upcharges, service fees, and driver tips (which, if you're tipping right, can add up to an additional $10) can have you paying double the price for an already expensive meal. to get the best quality food and experience, i'd recommend going to the direct source and eating at the restaurant.
i've seen many reviews about the poor service, but my experience so far has been rather amicable. the two young servers i've gotten have been polite and helpful, and very patient with my roommates and me. i won't discredit the other reviews, but i will say that you have a very likely chance of receiving amicable (at worst mediocre) service. my one critique that doesn't fall on the servers is that the wait time can be lengthy, around 30-35 minutes, but there's little to be...
Read moreSo we ordered pizza at 9:24 PM. There is not an estimated time of delivery on the confirmation email, so we wait around for a little while. When it is just past 10 PM, we decide to call the store. They had received the order, it is out for delivery, and should arrive in 10-15 minutes. Awesome. But then at 10:40 we call again asking why our food is not with us yet. We are aware that we live in an area that has gates closed at night so we fully expected a phone call when the delivery was outside...The way it was explained to us, the driver called the wrong number (20 minutes ago). The manager asked me to confirm the phone number, which we did. The number was not at all different from the confirmation email we received for the order. When the food arrived another 15 minutes later, now an hour and a half after initially ordered, the driver owned up that he called the wrong number. Good on him. But why didn't he try calling again? Why did he just drive away with the food that had already been paid for? We asked the manager if we could have some sort of discount for this incredible display of unprofessionalism, to which she said we can have a 25% discount the next time we make an order from the specific phone number we used this time... So we still had to pay for the food that was barely still warm and 1.5 hours late and they assume we would ever use this location again.
If you mess up, fine. Own it like the delivery driver did. But also, make amends so you don't lose customers. We should not have had to pay for a meal that required reheating or multiple phone calls to ensure it is delivered correctly. This is unprofessional and honestly quite rude. It is not our fault you messed up. We should not have to pay for your mistakes. So sorry we inconvenienced you by ordering food from you on a...
Read moreWe have been going to Cogans for over 6 months. Normally service is great, food is good and price is reasonable. Our party is between 7 to 10 people, so normally we spend a nice dime on food and libations. Today, upon our initial arrival the greeter wanted us to sit around one guy who was in their biggest table and or we could sit in place where there was a water leak or 3rd choice call next timr and make a reservation. Somehow we were finally seated, after discussion with the manager with their newest server who had no training. We placed our drink and food orders . Ordered 10 wings, got 6, 30 min later. Took another 45 mins to get out remaining 4 wings. After 45 mins no beer, placed 2 beer orders each time I had to ask why the beer was taking long, just to be told they were out. Finally I was frustrated, the bar manager expressed to me how sorry he was, and asked what kind of drink I would like, I said what kind of beer do you have because the last 2 I ordered you were out. Somehow, he explained the CO2 was out, and it was impacting the beers and he did not know what kind of beers he had. At which point I asked, what was the last beer you poured and was served an hour later after I had sat down. Multiple people at my table waited on their food 45 mins to an hour and a half. Finally to wrapp up this wonderful experience went to pay the bill, at which point I had to request for them to discount food/beverages that where late instead of the manager taking the initiative to make up for our experience. So, in closing... I will not be returning or my friends to pay to be treated rude, cold food, stale beer and bad service. So, for those reading this book, do yourself a favor,...
