Jack Brown's Beer & Burger Joint Norfolk: A Reliably Great Dive for Burgers and Brews Jack Brown's Beer & Burger Joint in Norfolk is exactly what it promises to be: a no-frills, fantastic spot for an excellent burger and an impressive beer selection. It's not trying to be fancy, and that's precisely its charm. It's a consistently satisfying experience, earning a solid four stars in my book. Let's talk about the burgers. They're simple, smash-style patties, cooked perfectly with a nice char and juicy interior. They don't overload them with crazy toppings, preferring to let the quality of the beef shine, and it works. My go-to is often just a classic cheeseburger, maybe with some grilled onions, and it always hits the spot. For the adventurous, their "daily special" burgers are often creative and delicious, offering a fun twist. The focus here is on quality ingredients and masterful execution of the basics. Then there's the beer. The selection is truly impressive, with a massive wall of taps featuring an ever-rotating lineup of craft beers, both local and from further afield. Whether you're a seasoned beer connoisseur or just looking for something new, you're bound to find a few pours that pique your interest. The staff is usually quite knowledgeable and can offer good recommendations. The atmosphere is quintessential dive bar: dimly lit, covered in dollar bills, and perpetually buzzing with energy. It's small, intimate, and often loud, which adds to its character. It's the kind of place where you feel immediately comfortable, whether you're grabbing a quick bite alone or catching up with friends. So why not five stars? The limited menu, while excellent for what it does, means it's not a place you'd go if you're looking for a wide variety of options beyond burgers and a few hot dogs. Also, because it's so popular and the space is small, it can get incredibly crowded, and finding a seat can sometimes be a challenge, especially during peak hours. It's part of its charm, but also its minor drawback. Despite these minor points, Jack Brown's remains a consistently excellent choice for what it aims to be. If you're craving a top-notch, no-nonsense burger and a fantastic beer, Jack Brown's Beer & Burger Joint in Norfolk is a must-visit. It's a reliable four-star...
Read moreI just have one advice for you. Do be honest in this place. This is a lesson I have learned when I visited them. It was my third time already because I really liked the food and the place. I even brought my friends with me this time but unfortunately they got so disappointed with this visit. At the end the waiter brought my bill, it was 79$ with a lot of things missing on it. I went back to her to let her know that what she should add because I don’t want to eat something I have not paid for. She corrected it 103$ but still there was tow things missing. She told she figured it out and printed anther bill but with a lot of things added on it 159$ this was not my bill. I asked her to correct what she added but she was insisting that yes we have took these things. Her friend came and said I will just delete 2 things and that is it. But still there was a lot other things added to the bill. She told me she will go through the camera and I was happy she said that but she never did. She was talking to me with a loud voice which I didn’t like. I told her I’m sorry but please don’t talk to me and let me talk to your friend. Her friend came and said I have to pay this bill or he will call the police. I said call the police but unfortunately even the place said this not my job you pay the bill and fill a claim against them. Next day I visited the place to talk with the manager but they were closed for maintenance (that was yesterday July 1st) so I called the next day but still no body answer. So what is the use of have a number to call?
I was really disappointed with this treatment. And that gave me a lesson to learn (don’t be honest in this place or even any...
Read moreMy husband and I had heard such great things about this place and were excited to finally check it out. When we arrived, there was a wait, which we expected and our name was added to the sign-in pad that was hanging on the wall. We didn’t want to sit at the bar, so the group behind us took those seats. We were next in line for a table told to us by didn’t get his name (bald head guy).
But that’s where things went downhill.
One of the workers (didn’t get his name, but he had dreads) came over, completely scribbled out the name above ours, and added a different name beside it at some point. Then, when the next table was available, he seated that group, the same group he had been chatting with outside for a while right in front of us. That group was not here when we arrived.
When we questioned him, his explanation was honestly laughable. He claimed he had “misspelled her name,” scribbled it out, and that she wrote her name next to it. That doesn’t add up. When we arrived, there was only a single line through the name above us, no scribble, no extra names and was told we were next to be seated by the other guy (bald head). The sign-in pad was hanging on the wall in plain view, and we were watching it the whole time.
So you’re telling me that 15 minutes later, you suddenly scribble the name out completely and she “just happened” to write her name next to it? Come on. That’s not cool, and it felt very unfair.
We left extremely disappointed. Great food or not, RESPECT and FAIR TREATMENT MATTER...
