Okay okay okay okay okay.
First of all, I must be obsessed with this place because I've literally been 7 times in the span of a week and a half. Ridiculous, okay? But the food is ridiculously amazing, so it only makes sense.
I'll be honest. I'm not a healthy food type of person, and the first time I came here (Lamb Burger Salad with Hibiscus Tea), I was a little wary of the menu because it was healthy everything, okay? Like I felt guilty not being a healthy eater. Thank gosh I found the lamb burger salad because I love lamb, and now that there's a place right next to my work that has lamb, well obviously that's where I'm going to be at for the majority of my lunch career. That salad was one of the best salads I've ever had in my life, and the lamb burger just felt like the icing on the proverbial cake. Not to mention you can put the lamb burger on anything?! LITERALLY ANYTHING. It's a side. You can add it any meal, and I've done it already. Fried rice with a lamb burger on top. Mind blown.
Then they have the Selden Breakfast every Monday-Friday between 8:30 - 10am where you get a breakfast sandwich and a coffee for a whopping $5. Doesn't seem like a big deal right? Well, for one their sandwich is freaking amazing, and I'm not trying to spend my money at McDonalds for breakfast when they are providing healthy food for me to get my life right. And it comes with coffee to wake you up for the work day? Sold.
Basically, go there. Try it out. Don't let the healthy aspect scare you because really, you'd never notice. And enjoy the atmosphere. Oh, I also haven't been to their Ramen nights every Wednesday, but you bet I'm going to be...
Read moreSo, my family and I ate breakfast here and it was a mixed bag of nuts in terms of quality vs/value. We had the Southender, The Vibe, The Egg Scramble, the Belgian waffle, an iced coffee and chicken breast.
Quality was an 7.5 out of 10. However, value, was a 4.
LOCATION: 10 Located in the center of downtown Norfolk in Selden Market, it was very pretty and trendy.
SERVICE: 6 Our waitress seemed a bit preoccupied and we had to flag her down a few times for assistance.
FOOD: 7 Portions are fairly small. The Belgian waffle is 'dessert-sized'. In other words, 1/3 of the size of a Belgian waffle served at a traditional diner. Their chicken 'breast' is served as small, dry shreds as opposed to the fillet most folk would expect. In addition, the fruit 'salad' that accompanied the tasty Southender biscuit, ended up being little more than a prettily sliced half apple. The Egg Scramble and The Vibe were quite delicious. When purchasing a cup of coffee, if needed, ask for extra sugar and cream as there is none on the tables.
PRICE: 3 Rather pricey. We spent more than $70 for 4 people for brunch.
WARNING: The Belgian waffle was very sweet and contained large grains of pearlized sugar that crunched annoyingly between the teeth.
MY ADVICE: Expect a decent meal where your wallet gets a major workout and your portions are rather small and you should have a fine...
Read moreMy friend and I recently visited The Stockpot in Norfolk, and unfortunately, our experience wasn’t great. I ordered the herb and potato soup along with a chocolate date smoothie. I was expecting chunks of potato and herbs, but the soup was more like mashed potatoes—thick and not at all what I anticipated. The smoothie had potential, but the dates weren’t blended well, so I kept getting sticky chunks stuck in the straw, which made it hard to enjoy.
My friend got the kale smoothie and the fried rice, which is supposedly one of their signature dishes, but she didn’t care for it at all. The rice was hard, and there were way too many conflicting flavors that didn’t mesh well. She wasn’t a fan of her smoothie either.
Neither of us finished our meals, and afterward we both felt kind of nauseous and off. On a positive note, the service was good, and the rosemary mini biscuit I tried was actually tasty. The dessert options looked appealing too, though we didn’t try any.
My friend mentioned the Virginia Beach location is much better, so maybe it was just an off day or unlucky choices, but we probably won’t be coming back to...
