I'm giving a 2 star cause the chicken stew wasn't on point I have eaten in different restaurant and what they served isn't chicken stew is just chicken swimming in sauce nothing more and nothing less also there are time that favor is there and at time it's not I have given them the benefit doubt and see if its has improve but each time has been a let down I may go back take a picture of the chicken stew and put another picture of what a chicken stew should look like .2.the oxtail stew tasty but it wasn't worth the 9 dollars I see in the picture that are post here I wish my oxtail looked like that but it didn't it was chop up small it had bone then meat, if you looked at my plate you would ask where it at nooooo you are a restaurant you have the food that your show casing looking fresh and put more food as needed you don't tell your customers we can't put no more food out until tomorrow specially your still open and it wasn't near closing another thing when I was standing there to pay I watched you stirring a pot of whatever you was cooking that same spoon you was stirring with I seen taste the favor out that pot with the spoon that you put down next to the pot nooooo you don't that unless your in your home you supposed use two spoon one for stirring and one for...

This is easily one of the best places to eat in Hampton Roads. I have lived in the area just under 20 years and tried just about every place in the area. These people are the friendliest and most helpful. After three college-level Spanish classes, I don't speak a lick of Spanish yet the ladies here manage to help me understand everything, without making me feel like an idiot. There isn't one item I've tried that has disappointed. My favorite dishes are the pork shoulder (soooo tender and flavorful), stewed chicken, shrimp with onions and garlic, yellow rice and the pinto beans. I even went in once (while in the middle of getting my hair done next door) and couldn't put my finger on what I was in the mood for but I wanted to try something different. The owner cooked me up some of what she was having for breakfast and sent me on my way- :)- free of charge. It's not just a family style restaurant; it feels like how my family treats me. The food is the same- from the first time it felt familiar like comfort food yet I'd never had it before (again that pork shoulder- OMG!). Don't be offset by the small, coziness of the spot- it's a...

Awfull!!!! I was so disapointed :( went there with my best friend becouse we had a taste for caribean food and from the door I knew the experience was going to be bad, the 2 ladies that were the look at us with a not so friendly face, we still over look that and focus on what we went there for wish it was the food, the table was dirty, and the lady that came to clean it came all in our faces with a white shirt 2 big HUGE ballons with no bra and was putting it all up on our faces wish we was discusted. 45 minutes later finally came the food that we wanted so bad, white rice, bistec and amarillos, wish by the way the lady behind the counter corrected us in anything we ask for, she was saying that it was not the correct terminology for what ever we said (Im born and raice in Latin america) I just wanted to eat some good food and go home. End of story, we pay $46.00 for two rice and bistec with amarillos, a pinaple soda and a maracuya juice that it was water down. I personally dont recomend not even my worst enemy to go waste their money there. the old owner Ms. Glenis was...

The food was amazing. The chicken empanada was incredible. My whole family loved the food. At first it was awkward walking up to the restaurant with tons of people hanging out in the front, not eating. I felt like I was going into a strangers house and not a restaurant. When we entered it looked like it was closed, since there was no one inside, and we received just a look and not a welcoming smile. No menu was offered. The man seemed uncomfortable, maybe language barrier, however once he knew I spoke Spanish, he seemed to relax, and from there it all went well. To owners: I encourage you to fake a smile even if not feeling it to EVERYONE no matter whether they are Hispanic or not. Smile and say Welcome, bienvenido. We loved the food and pray you prosper. Dios los bendiga.

New review Mar -2025: Se le fue el sabor caribeño. The Caribbean flavor has left. This food is no longer made by Dominicans. The spices aren’t the same. The taste isn’t the same. Se le fue el espíritu. The spirit is gone. The beans aren’t made with the same spices. The pernil tastes off. The plátano maduro taste rubbery. I used to eat at this restaurant when I wanted home cooking. I even had a previous 5 star review before. This is not the same. There are other authentic Dominican and Caribbean restaurants in the Hampton roads area. This is no longer it. They not like us. In the photo on the left is what I got today on the right is what I’m used to and what you’ll find of you search for “habichuelas dominicanas”

Beware, the staff do not wear mask which is a deterrent for me in Covid-19 season 😳... But I surprised my husband with this place because I saw that they served this dish, Mofongo, we experienced in Punta Cana a few years ago. We came for lunch but we didn't have any breakfast which was a mistake because they cook to order for some things. It took a long time but the food was very good. The Mofongo with shrimp did not disappoint, it was delicious. My husband love oxtails so he ordered that with the rice & beans and he enjoyed it. Do not go hungry or order ahead of time.
