June 2, 2023 I went to Opolis tonight and it was a blast. From what I gather a group of "fascinating and eclectic young individuals" have shown enterpreuneuship and taken ownership of this club in the recent past and are putting together a unique vision into action. This is a good place for entertainment at University of Oklahoma - good people, good times and great experiences.
I was a bit early and got introduced to these owners and it was the begining of the wonderful experience. I had the delicious house Pineapple punch with rum which was excellent and just one glass put a "buzz in my turban" I got to see the menu and noticed a yummy array of food but did not eat as I had already eaten my dinner! Will be there tomorrow to eat! The ambience of the place reflects on the warmth and friendly nature of the ownership! The bar was well stocked and well kept, the premises were very clean and there was a sense of pride in what was being done. The outside patio was very charming! The service was impeccable and as I mentioned in the earlier paragraphs there could not be a friendlier place! Thank you Addi, Lane, Eli, Sarah, Ethan and Julius for looking after me so well. You people are going to go places.
To summarize, I had an excellent experience on the above these three categories and I will be going to the dance party on the 3rd!! I strongly recommend this venue for anybody's entertainment needs and a place to get together with friends!
As far as entertainment- there was an out of state "modern country western band," Tommy Goodroad and his band, and it was their first gig in Oklahoma. It was excellent stuff played by a very talented band with the artists playing a whole spectrum of originals and cover music.
Hope to see you all at the Opolis sometime soon. Have a great...
Read moreThis venue is minuscule and insufficient in every aspect. The limited size means concertgoers are constantly jostled and touched by other attendees the entire event. There is limited seating along one wall, but it's mostly dilapidated second-hand fare that looks dirty. They installed a bench for more seating near the stage, but it mostly just impedes the flow of traffic since it isn't flush against a wall. There are only two single-stall bathrooms, which are insufficiently stocked and quite gross (which is worrisome since the bar staff use these too). Concerts almost always start late (the last one I attended started 2 hours and 15 minutes late), which is inconvenient for people who come to see the show, not drink and socialize. The worst aspect of this venue is that most bands and artists sound bad when they play here. These are musicians that I have heard in other venues where they sound awesome, so the problem isn't the musician or group. The bottom line is that this is a venue for people who want somewhere to stand while they socialize. It isn't a good venue for hearing or appreciating music. My review is based on several visits over the span of several years. You couldn't pay me to...
Read moreOne of the most inclusive spaces in Norman, and I love that it has evolved into a worker/owner business! Their support of “early in their career” and/or experimental musicians makes them integral to Norman’s music ecosystem. I also find it an intimate venue when a more established band comes through, like Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Kate LeBon, Washed Out, Kero Kero Bonito - to name some of the shows I’ve seen there that have been packed out in much larger spaces. I also love the new things they’ve tried like “Bread Talks”. You learn so much from the community while Opolis serves up warm delicious bread with a dipping sauce made of oil/vinegar/seasonings. They’ve also got dance parties, karaoke nights, host Weirder Wednesdays, and more. They are one of Norman’s...
