MUST-VISIT, NEW HIDDEN GEM IN NORRISTOWN! I came here thinking there was only ice cream, but the place lived up to its name- I was shocked to see just how much they offered! The customer service was excellent, and the ladies preparing our food were very friendly. I plan on coming back.
PARKING: Parking was free in a spacious lot.
THE LOOK: Brightly lit spacious restaurant, small tables seat 4. I came in with a bigger group, but we could push the tables together until we left. The bathroom was good and clean.
THE FOOD: I initially thought I’d only be finding ice cream here, so I was surprised to see the menus FULL of so many different options for sweets, savory snacks, and lunch foods! Besides ice cream, they had hotdogs, paninis, popcorn, cotton candy, chips, and basically everything. Even picky eaters can find something they like at an excellent price.
The ice cream is handmade, so be aware it has a unique taste compared to store-bought ice cream. It’s fresh and sweet without tasting like pure sugar/ syrup. You can actually distinguish between the different flavors.
The group I was with ordered the following. I wrote descriptions of what I tasted: Nachos Monte Cristo Panini- Mozzarella, turkey, fresh tomatoes, and lettuce on whole grain bread. Lays potato chips came included on the side. Chicken Cesar Panini Banana Split Waffle- Banana ice cream on a warm waffle topped with strawberries, syrup, and whipped cream. The ice cream tasted so good! Snickers Waffle- Snickers ice cream on a warm waffle topped with bananas, peanut butter syrup, and peanuts. I’m not a chocolate ice cream fan, but I liked this one. It had just the right amount of cocoa/chocolate. Crepe with berries- Fresh berries folded in a crepe with Nutella, topped with whipped cream, and chocolate drizzle. The crepe was huge and delicious. Cookies and Cream ice cream in a waffle cone bowl Coconut Paletta (ice cream bar) - The Palette was a good size, sweet, and came with a little holder so that if it melted, it wouldn’t drip onto your fingers. Oreo Milkshake Cucumber and Lemon juice- The juice has a strong green veggie smell but was surprisingly sweeter than expected. Pineapple Juice- Sweet Pineapple juice blended with water. It was very refreshing Cotton Candy
As you can imagine from my review, I highly recommend...
Read moreWhile out on road trips for our son’s baseball games, we often try out local privately owned ice cream shops. On a recent trip to Norristown, we tried out La Sorpresa and we were very happy with the experience. It’s a real nice, family-friendly spot with plenty of parking. They have tons of option to choose from, including hot dogs, nachos, ice cream, water ice, popsicles, unique soft drinks, and candy. The ice cream, water ice and popsicles are homemade, and they had very creative flavors. We tried the ice cream sundaes with churros, which were amazing. They made the churros fresh for us, so they took a few minutes to prepare, but it was well worth the wait. The pistachio ice cream was awesome. Their popsicles looked really good, with fresh fruit inside. I’ll have to try that next time.
Service was very pleasant and helpful. And compared to many other privately owned ice cream shops, it was actually a good value! Seating inside seemed a bit limited, but we were visiting in off peak hours, so we didn’t have any problems.
Next time we’re in Norristown for a game, we’ll be stopping off at...
Read moreWe just moved to the area from Virginia and were on the hunt for a local go to ice cream shop. Looked to google and found La Sorpresa!
I love that it’s locally owned and had 5 star reviews. Upon arrival, L.S. is bright and super clean. There are SO many varieties of ice cream. The girl behind the counter let me try as many flavors that I wanted and even some I didn’t know I liked… When I saw that they had pistachio homemade I that I knew this was my spot! I ended up ordered a scoop with churros topped with chocolate drizzle and a whipped cream! I was in absolute heaven and will definitely be visiting here as often as my waist line let’s me, lol....
