Incredible! Lots of places claim to serve âauthenticâ Mexican food, but none come close to the flavors and atmosphere of La Chilanguita. True to its name, it feels like a restaurant that youâd find in the streets of Mexico City! Our friendly server greeted us and quickly brought us a pan of chips just like youâd get in Mexico â thicker than usual for the US, crunchy, and slightly chewy â topped with beans and cheese and served with salsas verde (fresh with a bite) and roja (liquid fire). I had the milanesa de pollo (chicken breast pounded super thin, breaded, and fried), served with tortillas, a plate of fries, beans, rice, and salad. Hubs had alambres de pollo and very much enjoyed it. I wanted an horchata and, at the servers recommendation, we had and loved the horchata de fresa (which comes in a small size â not on the menu!). I wanted to try a dessert, but we were stuffed and brought home leftovers. All this with tip for a little over $50! 90% of the other customers appeared to be Latine, an indicator that this place is legit! Weâll...
Read moreMy family and I have mixed feelings about La Chilanguita. Their food is AMAZING that's for sure and I would've given them 5 stars for just their food alone. However, prices are a whole other story. The prices aren't very cheap to start with but then they charge you more than the menu tells you. I was the only one in my family to have their meal price match the one on the menu! If they want to charge you more money then just put down the truth on the menu so you know what you're paying for. We all just wanted tap water and they gave us bottles ($1.50 each) and they didn't even tell us the price. This place is good for their food but don't go here if you're looking for somewhere with affordable prices. Also got charged a food and drink tax probably for paying with a credit card. Take your money somewhere that...
Read moreWell, we found LA Chilanguita by mistake. We were looking for El Primo, which was around the corner. But sometimes mistakes can yield wonderful experiences as I tried to rationalize to my wife.
My wife had one sope, one birria sope, and 2 tacos. She was not impressed, felt the birria did not have enough flavor, and the tacos and sopes smaller portions than expected for the meal price. The horchata price was ridiculous at six dollars a piece.
I had the red and green sauced chicken enchiladas. The portions for me were adequate, the sauce very good.
Price to food ratio, a bit more expense than expected.
All in all, 50/50 food experience, split...
