Taste of the Islands — Restaurant in Norristown

Food is delicious BUT, too spicy for me to eat the whole platter AND they gave me a crusty corner of Mac and cheese that barely filled the little section of the platter— I order a large platter and they charge me extra for Mac and cheese. Also, I called to order 5 times to make sure they had what I wanted first, they don’t answer the phone. I ordered through clover online instead. When I got there they didn’t have the plantains I had ordered. I should have asked for more mac and cheese instead but I didn’t realize how little they gave me, so I took collard greens instead of plantains.

Great if you like spicy but I ordered brown stew chicken which I’ve had from tons of other restaurants and even my cousin who is from Jamaica and it’s never spicy. Delicious food I’m just not too happy with...

October 2019: I stopped in for some curry goat, jerk chicken, oxtail and a couple beef patties with sides of plantains and cabbage. The patties were great. The goat peices were nicely cut. Some restaurants serve up terrible cuts of goat that are excessively bony. But this was very good. I got lucky. I got the medium sized portions as this was my first time ordering from here. My only issues was the salt. The food was salty. Too much for my taste buds. The rice and beans and sides dishes were fine, but the meat (goat, oxtail and the jerk - to a lesser degree) had way too much salt. I would try this place again incase this was a day the salt got away from the cook. If salty again, I will not return and would only recommend it for people who dump salt on their food before...

There's so many good reviews about this place and I really wanted to like it but I was just very disappointed with the food. Maybe I just came at a bad day or time (shortly right after they open ~12pm)? I got a large order of jerk chicken and had Mac and cheese with it. I asked for the spicy sauce with it but the meat was still very dry and didn't have as much flavor as I had anticipated. Same with the Mac, it was just kind of bland. They also gave a lot of rice but it's hard to eat when it was so dry. If it was cheaper maybe I could've justified the food but being so good, but it is about the same price as where I usually go (Jamaican D) but nowhere near as tasty and didn't give as many sides.
