Plaza Mexico — Restaurant in North Beach

Dang, I really want to like this place. The atmosphere and ambiance is there but the attentiveness is lacking a lot. I’ve been here plenty of time to know the difference. First couple of time is was okay We got a table right away, got water, chips and salsa. Then we place our order, no problem. Third time there was a wait so we got a buzzer walked to the water down the street to kill the 20 min came back at 15 they said they had buzzed us but sat the next table instead, informed us we would be next, no problem waited for the next table since we decided to walk away. This last time just made me really sad. We checked in it was a 15 min wait, cool I told the hostess if I could grab a drink at the bar she said yes and as for my buzzers number, cool. Walked over took a while to get the bartender’s attention we order our drinks and as the drinks came we got buzzed. We wanted to pay before we star down. Next thing you know the hostess was walking with the next waiting party to our booth. Our bartender got mad and informed the hostess and the owner that we were just paying for our drink and were ready. We had to wait for the next table, the owner didn’t apologize or anything. Our waitress was basic nothing memorable but the guacamole 🥑 lady she was 💣 bomb that was the highlight of the night fresh made guacamole. The wait staff and floor management are consistently wonderful, and we’ve yet to have a bad meal here. We frequent Plaza almost every time we have guests in town. The only glaring blemish on their track record happened when we sat at the bar and were very rudely interacted with by the senior bottle-blonde behind the bar. At almost 30 years old with 7 of industry experience managing a bar venue, you’d think I’d be flattered by the assumption that I’m underage- however we were very loudly accused of having “fraudulent identification” (her exact words) after she made it a point to take our ID’s across the restaurant to three different managers for “verification purposes”. This was all before we could even place a food order, much less before there was even a mention of alcohol.

We travel for a living and are both transplants to the MD area so we both have out of state ID’s that she clearly doesn’t know how to read. This is also a prominent military town, so one would guess they’d have ample knowledge with the variety of IDs they encounter.

I’ve had my own experiences of protecting myself from the liability of serving minors, but her dramatic outburst and loud accusations in front the entire bar were in extremely poor taste and horribly embarrassing as regulars of the establishment.

They have REDEEMED themselves! Went to "our" favorite spot and they was on point! The service was excellent the food was FANTASTIC! Texana Quesadilias, Bean Dip and chicken wings. I'll let the picture speak for itself!

This used to be one of my favorite places for Mexiacn food. Sad to sat the quality of food and service has gone down it is hit and miss now. Shrimp enchilada had what appeared to be one diced up shrimp per enchilada and was overloaded with onion and tomato - shrimp shortage??? The bean and queso dip was like soup - they water the queso down to the point its like water! Service used to be excellent, now you have to wait atleast 15 minutes to order and chase someone down for a drink refill. Not to mention they didn't even bring our appetizer - chicken wings. It took about 20 minutes ro get our food where in the past we was getting our food within about 5-10 minutes after ordering - would still be working on our appetizers. Wasn't even that busy. Sorry Mexicos not sure what happened but wish ya'll would get it back together. We really used to love this place....
