Bay Wine & Spirits — Restaurant in North Beach

Rude & unfriendly. After seeing other reviews it doesn’t seem this opinion is uncommon.

I walked in in with my husband while we were doing some house hunting. We both work really hard & I was looking forward to having a nice glass of wine by the bay. I’m petting some cute dogs inside the shop when I hear an abrupt “What can I help you with?” by the woman working behind the counter. I stated I was interested in their wine tastings before I realized that they only do wine by the glass or bottle. No big deal & I was about to correct myself when loudly I get told “WE DON’T DO TASTINGS, IT’S BY THE GLASS”. I said “I see that, I was about to correct myself”. Then once again before I can even finish looking at the menu I get asked by the woman in a rushed voice “What can I get you?”. I told her I wasn’t sure yet as I was still looking. She then rudely states “Well do you red or white? Do you know THAT?”. I order the first red I see, a Merlot, and state I’ll just take a glass of that. She then says “Well I’ll still give you a tasting of it first, you can try any of them before picking one”. However, at this point I tell her not to worry about it and I’ll just take the glass. Her tone, abruptness, & rudeness just made me want to spend less time engaging with her or anyone in that shop. Even my husband was taken aback & opted not to order anything. Overall our short trip to North Beach was lackluster. Our visit into other shops was also very unwelcoming & uncomfortable. The people who work/live in this area are grumpy & bitter souls for some reason so we can cross this off the house hunting...

Was treated poorly at this establishment, I came in interested in the fine wines, but I also had to use the restroom. The sommelier informed me that the public bathroom was across the street, and if I wanted to use the establishment’s restroom , that I’d need to purchase wine FIRST. I’ve never felt so humiliated in my life.

Buyer beware, as I was not treated with respect nor dignity here. And for the record- I did in fact purchase the wine first, and was not able to take my time reviewing all selections, because I was in dire need to utilize...
