Went for Valentines Day and had an amazing experience. Live piano player and beautiful tables created a very romantic setting. We choose the Valentines package which was a 4 course meal with options for wine or champagne pairings. The first course was a green lipped muscle that was phenomenal, the second course a tomato bisque that I will now compare every other tomato bisque to because it was that delicious, and the main course was a filet mignon with scallops. I am a bit of a picky steak eater, but the filet was cooked to perfection and seasoned nicely, served with a chimichurri sauce that put it over the top. For desert they served chocolate covered strawberries and individual NY style cheesecakes. The overall experience left me feeling special and spoiled, just what a good Valentines date is supposed to accomplish! They even offered a complimentary professional photograph for each couple and a red rose! It was little touches like that which really set the experience above and beyond a regular restaurant date night.
The wait staff were knowledgeable about the wine and champagne options as well as the food. They also provided great service and made sure that our drinks were never empty for more than a couple minutes in total throughout the night. Overall 10/10 experience and would...
Read moreI used to LOVE the plank house for years. This past visit tags it as a NEVER RETURN to restaurant. Where to begin, the menu has had multiple changes and I believe the food comes from a whole different kitchen now. Food is SUB PAR for the price as a whole, not worth it. The big reason for the 1 star though is the service. The manager on duty Terry K. Served us Bloody Mary's that were at no point drinkable. It was thick tomato juice with a stick of celery in it. Upon informing Terry K. that the bloody Marys were not drinkable. She interrupted our dining to have my husband and I sign the lines ( that she drew in front of us on a receipt) stating that we didn't drink our drinks. I have never had this experience before and in no way believe it is an expected experience to be harassed by a server for returning a bad product. This is after we respectfully accepted her declining to serve a 60 year old member of our party because she forgot her ID. We respect the law, but it seemed downright embarrassing to ask a 60 year old woman for her ID and then refuse to serve her. The whole experience was terrible and we have never felt so disrespected while trying to enjoy a meal. Thanks but no thanks plankhouse. I recommend ANY other establishment in Coos Bay over...
Read moreMy finace and I went out to dinner at the Plankhouse last night for Valentines dinner. We did the couples special and I can honestly say that was by far the worst meal I have ever had. The restaurant wasn't even 1/4 of the way filled, so I'm not sure why our meal came the way it was... here are the details...
The salad had a sharp bitterness to it. Not sure what that was but I couldn't eat it... maybe it wasn't washed properly. Then the Filet Mignon and lobster tail came out. The presentation was lovely but both the Filet and lobster were WAY over cooked. We asked for rare and they were medium and the lobster was dry enough I swear I could see dust coming out of it when I tried to get it out of the shell. There was also a tart of some sort for dessert that had 2 chocolate dipped strawberries... the tart was tasteless and the strawberries were mushy like they were either frozen then taken out or just old. $140 for this and it was very unpleasant. I went home and made a sandwich.
Our server was...
