We have been coming to Arthur’s for about 20 years. We decided to go tonight for my son’s birthday. We called in advance to be sure we could bring in a custom made ColdStone Creamery ice cream cake and were told yes. We went in with the cake, told them it was an ice cream cake in case they couldn’t tell by the bag and box and labels. They said of course we will put it deep in the FREEZER. We ate our meal which went well. Time for cake... out comes a completely melted cake. We were devastated. We called the manager who kept repeating that there was nothing he can do when we insisted on getting the $35 for the cake back. Three people told us the cake was in the FREEZER. The manager said they don’t have a freezer it was placed in the walk in REFRIGERATOR. Really?! How does a restaurant not have a freezer??!! If they would have told us they “didn’t have a freezer” we would have had the cake first. Instead a completely melted cake came to my son. The general manager magically went on vacation and was unreachable and returning on Monday. He is the only one who can help us. We asked to take the money off the check and Jesus refused. We said we will take it off and he said he will call the police. The police! For $35 dollars??!! Come on...The waiter came over and reimbursed us for the cake out of his own pocket in agreement with the fact that this manager was conducting bad business. His staff made the mistake of 1. Saying they can accommodate an ice cream cake AND 2. Accepting the ice cream cake and telling us it’s IN A FREEZER. Everyone in the restaurant witnessed the fiasco and agreed it was very bad business. All we wanted was reimbursement of the cake. We attempted to give the waiter back his money but he fought us continuously. The fact that he did that was amazing but no waiter should have to make things right. That is what the manager’s job IS. This manager had no clue how to be professional and avoid a scene for what was the cost of a steak. Which in addition the quality has declined since the original owner passed away and the family sold the restaurant. The terrible reviews I have read here as well maybe because of the way Jesus (the manager) is managing the place. The customers were shocked and appalled at the way Jesus handled the situation. All we wanted was exactly what we paid for the cake and everyone agreed that that would’ve been the proper way to handle it. Admit they made a mistake (the customer is always right is how most people are taught customer service) credit the check like we asked and move on. Though quality was ok with our dinner, Jesus has made the decision for us to not be ever return and to make sure everyone knows it was his poor management/business knowledge that made that decision. There are many good steakhouses out there. Kudos (unfortunately) to our waiter Anthony who made this right at his own expense....We really hope to have him reimbursed for Jesus’ horrible decision. What would you do if this happened on your...
Read moreWorst and terrible evening that I feel so ashamed bringing over my family and a friend. I bragged about the place to them thinking it would provide service as we had experienced at Arthurs Morris Plains. I was wrong! We had a reservation at 630pm and was seated at 715pm. At the entrance, there were 4 customers who came before us and decided to leave (Good for them, should have left too!). Door dashers were also dying to get out from the small entrance area but have no choice but to wait. A group of 13 people were also there hence, it was packed (cannot do social distancing...) Once seated, not one waiter/waitress came to apologize, not even hand the menu. We were seated for another 30 to 40 mins until my husband decided to walk over and grab the menu. Not an appetizer serves as was observed in another table. We decided to just write our orders and hand them to a guy in white polo shirt which might be the manager but did not do his job to be one. (Oh our sad fate!) We were observing the other 3 tables with customers, one table was complaining how it took awhile for her order and decided not to get her order. Another table was complaining about their bill and walked out. The one near us were looking at these people and commented, "This never happened before..." Almost the other tables were not cleaned yet, messy table with used plates, glasses and napkins :( - oh m G It was like the waiters were waiting to have everyone else leave first before catering us. 845pm, they just got the order for drinks and most of the smoothies were not available :( Even the burgers and kids menu were not available. They just told us after 30 mins when we handed our orders (grrrrrrrrr......) I was so down, i could not eat, we were not happy, too disappointed... wedge salad was poorly presented... steak was ok but not pleasing to the eyes... parmesan crusted chicken lacks taste... i hate the evening... Not one waiter even decided to move and clean the used tables around us. They were just talking and relaxing at a closed room. Gratuity is already included in the bill. I recommend they should not or better stay away from this place. Unless, you see a 5 stars review in the future. To the owner, you should save your restaurant. Your staff and lack of customer service and inavailability of food as per your menu will destroy your business. Oh, one more thing, the restroom stinks :( Never will I come back to this place... I will inform my colleagues and friends as well to save them from wasting their money and...
Read moreI am giving a generous two stars because of my true love of the memories that Arthur's has given me dating back to 1995 when a good friend recommended I stop for a great steak at an excellent price. I will be forwarding this review to him as a remembrance (eulogy) of a great place that no longer offers either. My fiancee and I visited on Monday August 8th and we sat at the bar. Much to my chagrin, there wasn't an employee in sight for almost 10 minutes. Thankfully, there were a few customers in view so my first thoughts of robbery with hostages locked in the storage closet were dispelled. The delay kind of worked out well because it gave us time to become acclimated to the horrible musty odor that permeated the building, either emanating from a roof leak or the 20 year old carpet.( Yes I remember the "new carpet.") Our first thought of splitting was outweighed by my urge for a steak I once knew. We were greeted by our hostess, bartender, bus person, food runner and possibly manager, Daysy. Yes, it was a one person show. She was pleasant and did the best she could under circumstances obviously dictated by absentee management. We received our food fairly quickly once Daysy took our order. Simple, straight forward, two 24 once steaks medium rare, well done home fries, and garlic bread with mozzarella. Well, I 'll start positive and say that the bread was pretty good. The steak arrived well done and the home fries were obviously put under the broiler and burnt. The quality of the meat was close to what it normally would be (we never expected prime here), it was always about the magic which has obviously been lost. The quality the value and the ambience have all been destroyed. The steak is hovering on forty bucks and a pint of Yuengling is at 7.50 ( Manhattan prices). Far too close to the prime steak house prices, (our favorite in Westfield offers a ribeye with a side for forty-eight and Amstels are six). Absent a successful round of CPR or a reincarnation of Houdini the place is doomed. The search should be on for a buyer of the real estate and corporate purchase of the Liquor license for...
