Casa Mexicana on Rt 130 is reportedly the same team as the former Rt 27 location, which is fantastic for denizens of that area but terrible for me since now I can't walk there! 😂
Presumably they switched following the issues they had with the old building (some outage kept them down for like a month at one point), but regardless the new place definitely looks a lot nicer. The seating area is much more spacious and the counters invitingly display flan, tres leches, and various liquados better than they used to.
Food-wise, it seems the same as the branding would suggest, and that's great news. I can't claim to be an expert but they've always had a better range of options compared to other authentic/non-TexMex places mearby, and I've always found the meats flavorful and tender without being overseasoned. The cecina/salted beef is a highlight, they serve lengua, and I've also always enjoyed their various steak-and-peppers type entrees.
One other worthwhile note is that the lady who served me had great English (I don't think I'd seen her previously at the old location for some reason), which understandably isn't always the case but was very welcome. Typically in the past I only really got good English service when this one younger dude was manning the counter, but perhaps this is improved. It shouldn't stop you either way though if you're able to order on-site!
Enjoy the new place, North...
Read moreWent to the hair salon next door and was hungry for some authentic Mexican food. This was just the ticket. Super authentic. The vibes inside are pretty toned down. Plastic tablecloths and more of a deli feel than a sit down place. But the food is fantastic.
I ordered a beef empanada which was just a little bland, but I also ordered the birria tacos. Dipping everything into that super flavorful and deep broth made it all better. They had two sauces -- a green salsa and a pinkish orangish creamy sauce that was delicious.
Service was very cordial but be warned, they don't speak English very fluently. I was able to get by with my high school Spanish and pointing at the menu.
I got a burrito to go for my husband, and that was also great with the addition of the birria broth lol... by itself it was also a little plain. I'd probably ask for addition of Pico or cheese to add some flavor.
I want to come back and try some other dishes. There were plenty of other diners and I kept checking out what they...
Read moreCasa Mexicana Restaurante is a quaint Mexican food restaurant located on Route 130 in North Brunswick, NJ. Not fancy, but a fun and good food vibe. We ordered the chicken Fajita, Empanadas, and Birria Tacos. The fajitas came out sizzling hot, fresh, delicious, and on point, with fresh tortillas in a fabric pouch. The Empanada was crunchy, and the birria tacos were so flavorful. We were the only ones dining in on a Tuesday evening, and the service was fantastic. There were a few people walking in for takeout orders. Looking forward...
