I was craving stuffed artichokes so I did a google search in my area and Roberto's populated. I had never heard of them before, I read the mixed reviews, a decided not to judge based on that alone. I went to their site to do an online order, the description says "stuffed artichokes." I decided to call to see what was was included in the seafood salad. There are no descriptions online. I'm glad I called, the person who answered explained that online orders charge additional fees to the customer and restaurant, and suggested I place the order over the phone. I ordered the stuffed artichokes, the seafood salad, and the clams casino. I was also told the prices online are 10 years old, they never updated the site. I asked to include a menu with my delivery for a possilbe future order, I was told the menu's are 10 years old as well, they have to print new ones. How extremely odd. I said how are people supposed to know pricing? He said they can ask when they call. I get my delivery order, and the "stuffed artichokes" are "stuffed artichoke hearts." !!! I called the restaurant and was told "this is what we have" I said then you should change the description online! They are 2 completely different things! The person there did not seem to care. Very disappointing. I have to say they were good, although it's not what I thought I was ordering. The seafood salad was ok, it was large but had an odd flavor maybe because of the olives and the type of olive oil. I'm used to the delicious one from Fresco Steak and Seafood which also includes scallops and lump crabmeat. I added some salt and lemon juice, it was ok. The clams casino were ok, but again had an odd flavor, not sure what type of seasoning they use. So, in conclusion, it's a shame that they are so antiquated with online ordering, 10 year old outdated prices online and on their printed menu, incorrect description for the stuffed artichokes, and no description for other items. The food was ok, but not really not...
Read moreHere's the thing. I used to live in the NB area and moved to rural PA where my food choices are limited. There's no such thing as "authentic" where I live. My in-laws live in NB area and each time we visit I stop into Roberto's for a quick bite to eat. Why, because the food is great authentic Italian. Every time I have been in there, I see the staff working very hard. The owner is usually up front working the register, answering the phone, and making pizza. He may not come off as "Mr. Nice Guy" when you're ordering, but for real, it's NJ... But take some time to start up a conversation with him and you will he is one of the nicest people you'll ever talk to. The man knows how to make great food.
#1. The food here is of high quality. Everything is homemade, the dough, the sauce, right up to the mozzarella and all their main dishes. #2. The service is great. Ask for something off the menu or customize your order. They will do their best to get you exactly what you want. #3. This is a local family business. They work hard just like the rest of us. They remained open through the pandemic. I'm sure that was difficult and good for them for surviving the harsh conditions imposed on restaurants. #4. I see some reviews about how long it takes for their orders to be ready. Again, this is a small family business and makes quality food. They are always busy and they take their time to make sure the food is on point. If your order takes an extra 5 or 10 minutes to be ready ,well that's the price you pay for quality. Take a breath and relax. Or, strike up a conversation...
Read moreUsed to be a regular here but I'll never go back after the following 2 experiences:
Update 12/6: They ruined my dinner and my appetite. Order veal Marsala, a dish I've gotten there many times. It always comes served over pasta, but not tonight. The pasta was on the side drenched in marinara which I can't eat. The veal was over cooked and put in what I could only discern as a mushroom broth because it was more soup consistency then a sauce. They tried telling me it's the same sauce they've used for 40 years. The delivery guy made me come out into the rain. All in all a horrible experience. Owner is extremely rude. Wouldn't even admit any wrongdoing or offer to replace anything.
Don't waste your money here. Go to Ninos or Kings instead. Better food and much nicer people.
6 months ago: They're menu is incorrect and inconsistent. Item descriptions are incorrect. Staff is aware and doesn't care. An employee told me they had made the same mistake regarding the item I ordered and wouldn't correct the issue. The item being pasta with mushroom sauce. What I received was pasta with tomato sauce and mushrooms. The employee was very rude. The dish itself was horrible. Pasta over cooked and an overly sugar sweet disgusting sauce. Honestly tasted like it was out of a bottle and they...
