My mom told me this was one of the best taco places sheās ever been to. Naturally, I walked in ready to be wowed, expecting a meal that would change my relationship with tortillas forever.
Unfortunately, that moment never came. The food took about 15 to 20 minutes to arrive, which might not seem outrageous, but when youāre expecting greatness, the wait starts to feel a bit suspicious. I began to wonder if they were growing the cilantro in real time.
Our waiter was kind, helpful, and gave solid recommendations. No complaints on that front. The service was one of the better parts of the experience.
The food, however, didnāt quite live up to the legend. The tacos were well seasoned, but the tortillas were tougher than expected. The shrimp tacos were definitely the highlight of the meal, but they arrived without lime. A minor detail, but one that makes a noticeable difference when missing.
Also worth noting, they donāt offer complimentary chips. For a place with prices sitting comfortably above average, it feels like a small courtesy that should be part of the experience. Mi Cancun still has them beat there.
Overall, it was a decent meal. Solid flavors, great service, but for the price and the hype, I left feeling more underwhelmed than impressed. A fair four stars, but not the kind of place Iāll be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāll tell ya what, great people who work here! But as far as food quality and portion size, just not where it needs to be. I ordered the special beef burritos, rice, and salad, and it was disappointing at that. The portion was the smallest I have seen at any restaurant and the food was all sauce and spice, no actual flavor and effort that went in to the entree. I ordered a beer while my gf ordered a basic cranberry vodka. They were out of cranberry juice and house vodka thought. āOk, well let me get some Titoās and orange juice.ā Welp, out of that too. Titoās and pineapple juice it is to sub for a cranberry vodka. She settled for it and then asked for some limes for the drink twice upon the waitresses arrival. On the third attempt, the waitress brought lemons! Great! We settled for a marginal meal and some reckoning service. By the way, donāt bring cash here because sometimes they forget to bring cash to work to exchange for change so you have to use a card. 60$ for a crap mix drink, a modelo, and Reuben sandwich, and some green crap your pants...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had an absolutely wonderful experience at Gov's Burger and Tap tonight! I had seen in a separate post that they have heated outdoor dining and I am always game to try a good burger. They exceeded all expectations! Best burger and fries that I've had in Chapel Hill! Before you ask, yes, I've been to Al's, Town Hall, Four Corners, Carolina Brewery, etc. Gov's Burger and Tap will be my go-to from now on. Despite the 43 degree weather, we requested a table outside. With a smile, they invited us to sit outside and immediately lit the heaters. The bacon cheddar burger was delicious! Perfectly cooked burger and extra crispy bacon. Even without dipping sauce, the fries were great, and I was shocked by the amount. I'm not sure what's in their house aioli, but WOW! š I would eat that on anything! Beyond that, the service was fantastic. The owner, Carmine, came out to check on us multiple times and was so welcoming! I am disappointed that we waited so long to try this great spot. We can't wait to...
