Happy Belly Ice Cream — Restaurant in North Carolina

Staying in Hatteras for spring break after dinner one night the family wanted to go get some ice cream. Driving around town we saw this little ice cream shop so we decided that we would go give it a try. We rolled up around 8 p.m. on a Thursday night and there were two young ladies working inside. We rolled in with a crew of seven and kind of filled up the joint since there were no other people there. They had about 14 or 16 flavors you could choose from and with some unique flavors. They let all of us try a couple of different ones with those little tiny spoons so we can find something that we liked. We got a number of different waffle cones, one of my niece's got a shake and then my wife got a banana split. Everything we're great portions the Banana Split was humongous they put a cherry on top but when our kids tried to swipe it we ask them if we could get a few more and they gave us four or five extra cherries so we all can have one, which was very sweet of the girl. Really dig the logo of the place. Inside they have quite a large of selection of merchandise you can purchase from stickers two hoodies and t-shirts. They also have a small candy store with all kinds of different Willy Wonka type goodies you could get. They have an outdoor seating area kind of enclosed Deck with some stools and tables and they're also the peered to be a number of picnic tables outside. We're only in town for another day or so but I'm sure we'll go back and get some more ice cream from them it was...

After several years of vacationing to the Hatteras village area and supporting this business I will no longer be supporting it after my most recent visit.

I am a K9 Handler handling a 5 month old German shepherd Service dog in training, we decided to take him to Happy Belly so we could work on leash training, socialization, and commands, while indulging into some ice cream. We decided to have him wear his trainer collar and leave his vest at home.

Upon arrival the line was out the door, however we waited patiently and made small talk with other friendly customers whom commended us on his excellent behavior and temperament at such a young age.

Once we entered the building the self closing door closed on my dogs tail causing him to Yelp from pain. Once the women serving ice cream heard the Yelp, me and my fiancé were singled in front of the 20 or so other people in the store.

We were scolded for having a pet in their establishment, then asked what the service dog was for, and if he was certified. We answered stating that he was not yet certified however I that I am a handler working to get the dog to his certification. Despite the response we were told to go outside, which I did because after all there was no reason to make a scene.

Update: I understand your policy, however the way we were treated was not appropriate. Their is not excuse for the way I was talked to...

I'm not happy with the rushed service I received this evening. The girls were very busy and seemed overwhelmed. I ordered the brownie 3 scoop sundae. I meant to say no walnuts but planned on eating around them. There were SO many walnuts that I couldn't. The ice cream seemed to be so melted that it turned to melted soup in no time. When I went to ask for something else, the girl was going to charge me again. I had already paid $8. I THEN noticed that the chocolate ice cream used for my sundae is left out in a chair. So I ended up leaving with a unhappy belly 🙁 Reading other reviews for this place and it seems as if the owner always has some sort of excuse to dismiss the complaints when responding to the customer reviews.
