This is was a hard review because in the past we have loved going to the Blue Pelican Gallery, and have brought many people to visit this beautiful gift shop. The owner is wonderful and expressive and does an amazing job displaying many local artists' work. However, this last visit was a huge disappointment. There is a man who works at the front counter and is not the best person to be representing this gallery. We walked in and said hello, and stated that we remember him from years past. His response was, well, less than well mannered-I don't remember you, he said hastily. We reminded him of us and that my husband and I talked to him about his wife working in education and that, we too, work in education. He wasn't impressed. He stated some things about telling his sons to get off this God forsaken island and to never come back! To change the subject, I asked if he was having a good summer, but that even sounded like I asked him the worse question of all! Please get this man out of there. He is not nice to the customers and treats people like they are stupid for even being in the shop, the beach, the island, or even the state! We will not be coming back, because we are friends with some local artists who say he is well known locally to be always grumpy. This man even stated how he personally doesn't support the local art. What a terrible thing to say in an art gallery. Other customers heard him and they casually walked out. It's time for him to move on to do some other things. Hire someone else; know that our prayers will continue for the owner as she heals, and get that terrible man out of your shop! Once he is gone, we will be back! My apologies for the bad review, but you...
Read moreIf you're looking for a gift/specialty shop that sells quality items at remarkably affordable prices, this is the place. Everything still has that beachy, OBX vibe but with a more artistic flair. We not only found some cute items for ourselves but managed to pick up some gifts for family. I especially loved their handmade, paper Christmas ornaments. The owners were friendly and even dove into their stockroom to see if they could find more options for the items we liked the most. I'm wishing today I'd bought a few things I left behind. Would definitely return if I find myself on...
Read moreThere are other galleries, pottery shops, jewelry shops on Hatteras and they all have something to offer. But as far as I could find, this is the only one that has a yarn shop inside. Beautiful yarns, instructions, needles, hooks, whatever you need to complete your project. I had a couple skeins of yarn and a pattern in my hands and talked myself out of buying-- only becasue I have an extensive yarn stash at home and I really really really need to clear some of that out before I buy more. Hopefully by the next time we stay in the area I will be ready to buy yarn for a...
