My visit to J-Topโs was very disappointed in the food they severed. I ordered the Ribs and green beans and fried okra. The best part of this meal was the fried okra which I thought was frozen okra instead of fresh okra. First time I have ever been served with ranch dressing on fried okra in which I thought was a complement to the okra. The green beans I felt were canned green beans instead of fresh. As for the baby back ribs I felt they were not smoked and could not find a smoke ring at all with those ribs. Thought I would read about โsmoking at the speed of cueโ would expect smoke flavor . My fiancรฉe also had pulled pork and I also could not find any smoke rings or a red tint to the pulled pork. I feel that J-Tops just took over the Charlies BBQ restaurant and not bring its own recipe to the restaurant. We even had BBQ sauce that stated Charlies Sauce. I really was hoping for a different to Charlies BBQ here but it seems that itโs the same. I like smoked filled BBQ and this was not smoked filled. Thank you J-Tops with great service. I will be back to see if any changes have happened in which I do with all restaurant that I feel have potential...
ย ย ย Read moreI am so disappointed with the food I received here this evening. This was my first time trying this BBQ place because we just moved to the area a few months ago. Iโve passed by it several times and saw the reviews so we decided to try it. I ordered 2 plates so my fiancรฉ and I would have a variety of items to try at once. One plate was just vegs and the other was a combination of ribs and BBQ. The ribs were dry and the piece that we got on our plate was more fat than ribs it seemed. The bbq was ok but spicy to me. The sides were horrible except the Mac and cheese. It was pretty good. The fried okra wasnโt cooked enough to my liking. The slaw and potato salad were room temp and not good either as the potato salad was bitter. The hush puppies were by far my favorite on the plate. I got a bag of the pork skins on the way out and just tasted those. They would be good if they werenโt so salty. I am so disappointed that I spent over $32 for a meal and we ended up not eating the majority of the food. The service on the phone and in person was fantastic. I am so disappointed and was so excited to have a place nearby...
ย ย ย Read moreThis is a pretty nice small BBQ shop that provides some pretty good BBQ, excellent service, and a nice atmosphere. The prices are seem to be around the prevailing price for this area. The sugar custard of the pecan pie is, surprisingly, not overly sweet. Though it is quite sweet. The smoked sausage was well cooked with a very nice smoke flavor, crispy casing, and juicy. The collard greens have a hint of sweetness, no bitterness, and a nice counterpoint to the crispy hushpuppies. I liked the brisket, though a touch on the dry side, it had a delicious char, was tender and complimented their house sauce superbly. The BBQ potatoes were the only thing that I was not the biggest fan of. I have seen it on other NC BBQ menus, but this was the first try so I don't have much to compare with. It is peeled sliced potato that has been cooked, almost to mash, in a sauce that is kind of like red hot sauce. It very much made me think of scalloped potatoes that replaced the cheese with Texas Pete/Louisiana Hot Sauce. Tasted Ok, though. Very much enjoyed my dinner and the the serving staff were friendly and quick to...
