La Guera Authentic Mexican — Restaurant in North Carolina

Authentic, hot and good prices! This is the place to come if you want authentic Mexican Cuisine. It’s a small kitchen style restaurant where everyone is nice and Spanish music pumped over the speakers. If you’re still confused about the ambience, know that there is a TV in the top corner of the seating area with Spanish TV playing ;). We were previously given a recommendation by several people here to try « K-38 » for good Mexican Cuisine in Wilmington but we were disappointed by insipid flavors and although the ambience there is fancier than here at La Guerra, I would still eat here instead. It’s all about how you look at it. If you were in Mexico you wouldn’t think twice about eating at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant if the food was fantastic. 10 years ago this was my favorite restaurant. Mom was in the back cooking and son was serving. You had to phone your order in before you arrived to avoid a long wait while she roasted the chilies, cleaned and stuffed them and battered and fried them. Today nothing is cooked fresh except maybe the tortilla. The meat comes from a bag - frozen. The veggies come from a bag - frozen. The meat and veggies are grilled until steaming and put on the plate next to the cold rice and beans which come from a bag and a can respectively. I went with my family expecting "authentic" mexican food. I ordered the chicken quesodillla with beans and rice. The quesodilla had fast food quality chicken pieces and it did not come with any sauce. I would have expected slasa at the very least. The meal also came with beans that were so watery it looked like they should be served in a prison. The rice was okay, but it was cold. Lastly, I was very unhappy with the fact we had to pay 50cents for TAP water. Overall I felt this place was a waste of money and I would not recommend...
