It saddens me a little to leave this review, as we adore Thai food and have genuinely loved Moon in the past, but I do so hoping the management will take less than 5 star reviews seriously and consider areas to improve.
We ate outside, and this was the highlight of the visit. A beautiful day and a charming little outdoor area are what pushed this to a 3 star review.
Service was fine. Our food came in a reasonable time, water was refilled, and that’s all we really needed.
Here’s a break down of the food. My wife and I each got a Thai fried rice bento box and our son had a chicken and fries kids meal.
Crispy spring rolls: 2/5 These were very disappointing, slimy (possibly frozen?) insides like you often get from a low cost takeout place. At $6.50 for an order of 4 tiny rolls, these need improvement.
Thai Chicken fried rice: 3.5/5 This was pretty good. Not my favorite Thai fried rice, but pretty good. However I was a bit surprised by the small portion included in the bento box.
Nigiri (salmon and tuna) : 2/5 This really hurt. I expected fresh fish from here as we’ve had it in the past. But this wasn’t it. For lack of a better word, both nigiri had a strong “fishy taste.” Never a good sign if you’ve ever had good sushi.
Tuna rolls: 3/5 Better than the nigiri because there was more to offset the disappointing fish. However, just “ok” sushi doesn’t seem good enough for a place this nice (and priced accordingly).
Fried chicken (from kids plate): 2/5 I tried my son’s chicken because frankly it looked delicious. It wasn’t. Very, very little flavor and a bit dry.
If I sound overly negative, I’m only being honest because I don’t want to see this place go down. We’ve really enjoyed it in the past, so I know they’re capable of more. But the bottom line is, $59 for 2 adults and a kid, I expect top tier Thai, but we have 2 Thai places in our little town that are each easily better than what we experienced at Moon this visit. We do love the atmosphere/location so much that I know we’ll be back to give them another chance. We may just give it...

I recently visited a Thai restaurant in Blowing Rock, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. I ordered a fried sushi roll, but after the first bite, it was clear the oil used to fry it had not been changed in a long time—it tasted rancid and unpleasant. I politely raised my concern to the server and asked if I could exchange the roll for the same one, just without the deep frying.
To my shock, the owner approached my table holding a piece of paper outlining their “no return or exchange” policy. He handed it to me with an attitude and no empathy, refusing to accommodate my request. I was stunned, especially because if the food is inedible, why shouldn’t a customer be able to voice their concern and ask for a replacement?
As he walked away, he loudly said “THIS IS NOT A CHINESE RESTAURANT, I don’t do returns” to his staff. I was left speechless. That comment not only felt inappropriate but also discriminatory. I felt personally attacked and uncomfortable since I am Chinese. It seemed as if his words were laced with prejudice. It was a shocking and upsetting experience I never expected in a place I’ve visited many times before.
The owner’s aggressive and disrespectful behavior left a terrible impression on me and I can’t believe how I was treated. This is not the kind of service anyone should expect, especially when raising a genuine concern about the quality of food.
I will not be returning to this restaurant and strongly advise others to consider the way they may be treated...
Read moreFirst off. This place is absolutely charming and I loved the atmosphere. The decor is lovely and the people are really nice, and (most) of the food was also really good and reasonably priced for the amount that you get. The issue came when we got the bill. There are no beverage prices on the menu and no beverages listed anywhere, which is a standard practice for several restaurants due to multiple reasons including purposefully not pricing the beverages so the customer has less to think about, which does make sense considering the absolute size of the menu. This being said, we received our bill and looked down to see that the restaurant was charging FIVE DOLLARS for a coke. I work in a Mexican restaurant doing everything from serving to dishwashing to kitchen to busboy. I am well aware of the practices businesses put into place to make more money, my restaurant utilizes them as well. But in no world is it anywhere acceptable to charge more money for a soft drink than one of your featured menu items. The people who work here are incredible and very nice, but it’s clear to me that the people who run the place only really care...
