If you don't mind driving 25 minutes west of Asheville... this is a breakfast place you need to try. This place puts Biscuithead to shame and for less $.
Buttered Biscuit in Waynesville.
We ordered so much food that the waitress asked if we had ever been to the establishment... we had not. She said we may want to wait on ordering all that food; but this is how we do breakfast. Order a bunch of food to eat for breakfast a few days, and they did not disappoint one bit.
The wife ordered the City Slicker which came with 2 eggs, bacon and strawberry/blueberry waffle/pancakes; and a side biscuit n gravy. I ordered the 2 eggs and country ham which comes with a biscuit n gravy (or grits/toast), and I snagged a buffalo chicken biscuit too because ytf not.
Eggs were standard eggs and cheddar cheese, the wife's bacon was perfectly cooked, thick cut and meaty: and my country ham was a large slice that was cooked on point. The waffle was soft inside and crispy on the edges with strawberrys topping it.
Now the biscuit and gravy... the biscuit puts BiscuitHead to shame in size, texture and flavor. The waitress asked if we'd like more gravy without be prompted... hell yea we want more gravy, so she gave us a small bowl on the side too. The country gravy was creamy, peppery and flavorful with just enough salt for the normal pallette. Finally that Buffalo Chicken Biscuit made this adventure a grand slam with its huge biscuit, juicy white meat chicken and that bright cayenne buffalo flavor.
Medium sized space in a dineresque style with extremely great service and staff. Price is comparable to most any diner and the portions are larger than at many others I've been to in the area.
9.8/10... just because of the slight wait to be served when we arrived... but honestly it was only 5 minutes max. So not a major issue since they were full on...
Read moreWe ordered our breakfast to go my boyfriend got a bologna and egg sandwich and I got the country folks breakfast. We were staying at Lake Junaluska campground but we are residence of Sylva...so we are basically local. When I went to pick it up I was greated by several employees and a nice young man rang me up. So from order to pick up it was 15 minutes. I got back to the camp site and my food was hot and steaming. My boyfriend was so happy to see a pack of dukes mayo in with his sandwich. It's the only mayo he uses and one of the reasons he wanted to eat at the campsite. My eggs were cooked perfect, ham was amazing, I got cheese and onions added to my hashbrowns which were still crispy and the biscuit and gravy was a massive portion that looked and tasted homemade. I read through the reviews before I went and the biggest complaint seems to be waiting. There was no line but I imagine on weekends and holidays it's probably packed. It's a local favorite and located right across the street from a lot of tourists attractions. So order it to go if u don't want to wait or your impatient. I'm thinking the complaints have to be from people that have never worked in the food industry or you would have some understanding of turn over and cook times. The other thing I saw was about seasoning which is also a stupid complaint. I'm sure there is salt and pepper at the table I know there were packets in my to go order. Hardly any breakfast places are going to put salt and pepper on your food for you because if they put too much or too little your also going to complain. I thought it was great and well run and the food was awesome. I'll definitely go back again and recommend it to others. Bravo👏👏👏👏👏 y'all did a great...
Read moreI had high hopes for this highly rated breakfast and lunch restaurant, conveniently located near Lake Junaluska and Maggie Valley. Finally got around to try it, and was pleasantly surprised that most patrons seemed to be locals. This is generally a good sign. We waited outside for about 30 minutes at peak time of a Saturday. Once seated, the staff were friendly, but a bit slow & overwhelmed. Being a breakfast lover, I ordered the “City Slicker” special with strawberry French toast, scrambled eggs & sausage. The sausage was dense & required cutting with a knife. The eggs were good. The French toast would have been good if the strawberries weren’t the frozen kind that were thawed, limp, watery & tasteless. The coffee had a strange, stale taste to it & I had to choke it down to get my morning fix. One family member had the burger with onion rings. It was so greasy he could not get very far. Another had the cheese steak. The hoagie was stiff & crunchy and the meat was bland. About the best thing we could say about the meal was that the cold drinks had nugget ice. As we were leaving, I stopped by the restroom & to my amusement, there were two commodes in the women’s single stall restroom. For a restaurant with such high reviews, I truly expected...
