Big Grove is better. I mean, unless you want to drink a marijuana beverage (hemp based) and watch kids running around everywhere, I would pass. The manager and owners of this place suck too- terrible attitudes. I went to the 4/20 party, and the party was everywhere besides the “VIP/ Party” area. I walked up there, looked at everyone that appeared miserable, walked down the stairs, and gave my bracelet to some random that wanted to check it out. The food and beer is okay- just okay. This place tries to be “hip” and exciting, but it’s a big square with baby bowling, a VIP/ party room that should be a storage area, a patio swarming with wild children, and a bar that couldn’t be in a worse place in the entire space. They do some cute Elsa/ Frozen kid activities in the middle of the summer and other kid centric stuff… but there’s something missing here. There was a cool bird event once… but as far as a brewery destination, there are far better places to visit. The cheese curds were good though, but not enough to change my overall Attitude and perception of this place. The definition of a field day is an athletic competition for school children, and that’s exactly what it is. Big kids running the show and pretending their problems are “rocks” and little kids playing on the patio. I thought this spot would gain some Traction, but it’s like the guy leading the charge used to run the Marriot Breakfast Buffet or something. (Not terrible, but not something you really want.) Good job guys- please 86 the gyro/ rice bowl- it doesn’t work. Salmon sandwich doesn’t sound too appealing either. Whoever is responsible for the Korean...
Read moreUsually when a new brewery opens there is some amount of grace that is required when reviewing their beer. That is not the case with Field Day. Every beer our party enjoyed (5 different ones) were all exceptional and without any obvious technical flaws. They clearly are careful and considerate about how the impression they want to make with their guests on that front and as a beer enthusiast I very much appreciated it.
The food is crafted with the same care and attention to detail. I wish I had snapped more photos, but the attached photo shows the Chicago Dog Pretzel which was delectable and represented the Chicago hotdog quite well. The rest of the food was equally tasty and did not disappoint.
The space is thoughtful and pleasant. The large patio doors were open when we visited and was a welcome feature. The design and color scheme of the place is tasteful and fun with a bit of a retro feel in a really good way.
Lastly the staff were friendly, responsive, and hard workers. I would have never guessed that it was only open for three days when we visited the way the servers knew their way around and expertly served their guests. Kudos!
I look forward to visiting the next time we are...
Read moreI had really high hopes for FD - a brewery in North Liberty? Yes, please. However, it's been a bit of a let down. Your table has a QR code to order food, but then you have a waiter (or multiple) which makes things confusing. Where do you order? The response is "do whatever". Things would be easier if they picked one or the other so the consumer can have a consistent experience each time they go. The soda beverage station says it is self serve but then the waiters say no and they get it. Things in general are confusing. It comes across the QR codes were implemented with the thought the joint would be packed. But each time I've gone it hasn't been so you get multiple waiters for your table.
Now to the food. The cost is very pricey for what you get. I'm all in for premium prices if the food is amazing. But a $16 salad should be more than a slightly larger than a side salad size and nothing unique about what's offered. The other dishes my friends ordered were similar - small servings for a premium price. I also would say the food was just ok.
All of that said, the place is still new. I'll try again in a few months to see if things...
