My daughter and I went there last night. We don't go out for sushi often because of the cost so it is a special treat. My daughter used some of her Christmas gift money. We had chosen to go to Suishin rather than Akita because we think the quality at Suishim is better. Both of us don't like the taste of wasabi but rather the fresh taste of sushi. Unfortunately all the nigiri tasted like they had been in contact with wasabi. We ate the six nigiri always hoping the wasabi taste was limited to the previous ones. However when we tried our tuna and salmon rolls they also tasted like wasabi. The hostess was extremely nice and called a manager or owner to our table. She told us we have to specifically state we don't want wasabi at the beginning when we are ordering and continued to tell us that the tuna and salmon rolls have to have wasabi in them which puzzled us. We haven't had this issue there or at other places before. They were gracious enough to remake one roll but didn't comp us on the other roll or any nigiri which was disappointing. The experience left us with a bad taste in our mouth, figuratively...
Read moreThis place is absolutely wonderful. Let this review count as one thousand five star reviews. We ordered a Crunchy roll, an Aspen roll, and the Gyozo. Food was top notch, pairings with in the rolls were delicious, and the dumplings were so savory a seared to perfection. Our server was busy with quite a few other tables, and was very attentive, kind and professional with in all of our interactions. In short, the service was very good. Whatever the server, she deserves a raise. The pricing was very reasonable, and the portion size was moderately generous. Any review you see about pricing is irrationally written by someone who does not know what product even cost, especially right now. For reference, our tab was $31, we had full meals and feel almost full. The dining room was lit well, but not too bright, and the seating was very comfortable. I'm not sure if staff have changed over the last year, but Any negative reviews, you can deem to be untrue. Go out and enjoy some quality Sushi...
Read moreIf you're looking authentic Japanese food at an affordable price, this is the place to go. I have been on a never ending search since I've moved to Minneapolis to find decent authentic Japanese food that isn't fusion. They make tempura correctly, their sushi(nigiri) has wasabi under the fish(like it's supposed to), they marinate their ikura and there are more authentic dishes than the pizzazed rolls you often encounter. I have learned from interacting with a sushi chef the staff are trained to make sushi in a traditional Japanese style learned from Japanese chefs. Which explains why they know to do these things. Not only is the food extremely well made, the staff here are incredibly attentive and personable. Before giving a place a bad review for doing something traditional to the cuisine they are advertising to make, please educate yourself in the cuisine. There's even a term for it in Japan if you do not like wasabi on your nigiri called,...
