Just moved to North Palm Beach, FL about two months ago and have begun sampling all the area has to offer in terms of restaurants…which is a considerable amount.
I’m by no means a “foodie” or professional critic, so take what I post with a grain of salt - I’ve been known to subsist on a diet of bachelor-style “meals” and regularly eat random frozen pizzas - but I tried DeSano’s at the recommendation of a family member and her friends who ARE local foodies, and I was BLOWN AWAY!
It was my 38th birthday yesterday - go me! - and I decided to order from DeSano’s and take my family member’s suggestion. I ended up ordering the stuffed-crust meatball pizza special (picture below - it looked delicious but also I’d never seen this type of unique pizza shape or stuffed-crust style before!). It was STILL a difficult choice, because they just have so many options to choose from…
I wasn’t disappointed. The pizza arrived fresh, hot, and quite quickly from a friendly delivery driver who joked at first that he’d lost my food because he was “so hungry and it smelled too good”. After I’d settled down and my horror had subsided - how dare he eat my birthday feast!? - I settled down to eat.
As good as the pizza smelled/appeared, it tasted even BETTER! It featured a healthy topping of shredded meatballs, as opposed to ungainly chunks of meatball that most places offer. There was just the right amount of red sauce, plus a cup of marinara on the side - and that marinara was certainly not just Ragu, it was special itself. There was a perfect amount of spicing and a few green leaves scattered on it for added flavor (sorry, I have no idea what vegetable those were, like I said I’m no foodie or pro critic). But there weren’t too many of them and I ate them all, anyways, even if I wasn’t supposed to. My daily vegetable.
But the CRUST is where DeSano’s shines. The stuffed crust of my pizza was a puffed-up patch of dough at the edge of each slice, and almost looked like it was the kind of mistaken air bubble that many places have by accident in their pizza. But THIS bubble was no accident! It was filled completely with creamy, oozing ricotta cheese. On top of that, the actual crust that wasn’t bubbled/filled with ricotta was crispy, slightly crunchy, and charred. It was thin, which I prefer, and perhaps the best part of an already-amazing pizza. Usually, I’m the type of pizza-eater who leaves the crusts behind, but I ate this one crust-first and enjoyed every bite.
I also sampled a bit of my family-member’s white pizza. The bit I ate, including the regularly unstuffed crust, was likewise delicious. I’m not a big fan of white pizza in general, but this one was great and I’d have happily eaten it, too. Unfortunately my family member was too in love with it to let me have any more than a bite. And it was my birthday! I guess she liked it, a lot.
Anyhow, I will DEFINITELY be going back to DeSano’s, probably this very week - I can’t wait an entire year for my next birthday, I need more NOW! I plan to go inside next time. I read someone else’s review on here that complained about the atmosphere and even the amount of staff working, which that reviewer said seemed like too many and suggested they be put to work handling orders if they wanted to make more money…Well, I don’t agree in the slightest. I, for one, am more than happy to have several kind employees waiting on me at once to fulfill my every request!
My family member and friends go there regularly and said that the atmosphere is just as good as the pizza. She (my family member) specifically said that the environment is wonderful because it is laid out so that you can watch the action of the pizza being made and easily ask for help if you need anything. Plus, she said that one of the managers (at least she thought he was the manager) named ‘Sam’ had taken the time when they went there to sit with them, chat, and talk. She said they left feeling that DeSano’s and’Sam’ genuinely appreciated them and went above-and-beyond to make their visit pleasant.
Awesome place! Definitely...
Read moreEDITED - Since there is no way to respond to a response from a business - In response to the reply from Desano - you raised the price on the spinach salad, as well, and definitely more than $1! We have been there about 3 other times in the last couple of months and most recently less than a month ago. We would never have paid $16-17 for a salad! The young man who took our order wrote it on a pad - when he came back, he didn't even remember what salad we had ordered - again there were 3 other table and one was leaving! What happened to the slip he wrote out? Just go back to letting the customers order at the counter - at least then the order gets put in right away. And bringing the water in a bottle to the table is a waste - there is a container with water with lemons (which the bottles do not have) 10 steps from any table and you go up there to get your cheese, crushed peppers, oregano, etc anyway.
If I could give it a -0 I would! We’ve been to this restaurant three other times they have since changed to table service versus ordering at the counter. They’ve raised their prices you don’t walk up and now but they have a server come to your table to take the order. We ordered a salad and a cheese pizza and after about five minutes, I didn’t see anyone on the line making the salad so I went up and asked the waiter, whether or not they were bringing the salad beforehand. About three minutes later, he came over to the table and said which salad did you have again? He hadn’t even put the order in. We walked out and will not be going back. It’s too bad but this probably explains why the last four times I’ve driven by. It looks empty - Tonight there were three other small tables besides us. Too bad because we did...
Read moreBest pizza in Florida!! My husband and I moved down from NYC and have been really struggling to find decent pizza in south Florida. We're really into pizza and have tried all the best places in NYC and New Haven. We also go to Italy every year so have had our fair share of good pies. DeSano is right up there. The key to great pizza is in the quality of the ingredients. DeSano imports everything from Italy. I noticed that they use DOP San Marzano tomatoes which are the highest quality tomatoes from Italy. You can immediately tell the difference when you bite into the pizza. The sauce has a ton of flavor and a bit of tang. We stopped by for lunch today and got the diavola and it was DIVINE. It had the perfect balance of toppings and sauce. To those ignorant people who wrote the negative reviews saying there wasn't enough toppings on the pizza - this is a NEAPOLITAN style pie. Structurally this type of pizza just won't allow for it because the middle is soft and too many toppings would make the pie extremely soggy. Also no one in Italy jams a ton of toppings on a pizza. If you're looking for a real authentic Neapolitan pie this is it! So happy I found this place - I'll be...
