South Florida has so many New York style pizza joints, but the true gem is found in North Palm Beach:
Leonardi’s Pizza
Their dedication to finding the perfect recipes for their pies comes alive in the first bite, and delivers all the way to the last bite. I spoke with the owners Chris and Amanda, and they tried every flour and every cheese and found the best quality ingredients you could ask for. They didn’t settle on mediocrity like most NY pizza places down here in Palm Beach County.
There are 3 higher quality pizza competitors nearby. Even though I knew immediately Leonardi’s was superior, I decided I needed to do a side by side comparison. I won’t use names to protect their reputation. I picked up a slice of pizza from competitor A without having it heated up. I took it to Leonardi’s and had them heat it up with one of their own plain slices.
I didn’t realize how upsetting competitor A’s pizza made me feel until side by side. See the photos below: A’s pizza looks like it is sick and unhappy, the cheese isn’t cooked correctly because they used too much cheese and sauce. Their sauce tasted good and was seasoned well, but very watery. Because of this, the flour used and because they cook their pizza on a screen instead of directly on the stone, the crust was undercooked and soggy.
Leonardi’s slice has the perfect balance of sauce and cheese, and the thin crust crunches with every bite. This is a rare quality, you have to try it to see how well they perfected their crust. The sauce is not watery, and it is seasoned better. It has a more authentic Brooklyn flavor. Leonardi’s charges $3.25 for their plain slices, while Competitor A charges $4.00. Seriously people, don’t punish yourselves. Spoil yourself with the best pizza in town and save the 75 cents.
My last point: Chris and Amanda are GOOD people. Their energy and hospitality shines, they make you feel welcome and their store & kitchen are spotlessly clean. If you want attitude and a belly ache, try Competitor A. You’ll be back...
Read moreAs a Brooklyn native I'd like to think that I've tried some of the best NYC pizza there is ( too long of a list) at this point and wanted to give Leonardi's a try as we were passing through the area and wanted to grab a slice. If you live in FL full time you know this isn't as easy as it sounds! 😆 95% of the places either suck or just don't do slices. We walked in and I instantly appreciated the simple surroundings done in a low key coastal vibe style. We were immediately greeted by the gal at the counter with friendly service and we each ordered our slices from a nice selection of about 5-6 choices. We tried the white slice, pepperoni, and the Calabrian chilli burrata. All three were very good. Nice crunch on the crust which had a nice simple ingredient kinda taste like you would expect came from a bakery that serves pizza. If you're from NYC you definitely know what I'm talking about. Both the red and white sauce had great taste and were pretty spot on. Not salty or too sweet. Great fresh ingredients and would definitely stop in again for a full pie or slices for lunch. We also heard someone walking out who had tried the pickle pizza ( yes pickle) and was raving about it. Although I can't give it a perfect 5 star review at this point it's definitely a solid 4 on Google or a 7.9 -81.1. I believe with some tweaks they will only get better and better, and really hope this place continues to do well esp. after reading their story of how they started. If you have wanted to give them a try I would highly recommend stopping in for a slice or two to support a small local business which was inspired by some of the best places in...
Read moreFinally got to Leonardi's after hearing about it and really digging their pizza love story. Maybe my expectations were too high. I really wanted the pizza to be better. It's way better than most Florida slices, but I was so hoping to give an "OH WOW" 5-star review. My small group rolled in at 5:45 p.m. and wanted to order a few whole pies. We were told by the woman up front that it would be 7:30 p.m. I told her we were going to grab some tables and eat there. She said it still would be 7:30. Uhhhh, no. We opted for a bunch slices of already made house pies. The dough structure and flavor profile from fermentation and bake was not as good as I expected. The regular cheese slice lacked a super flavor punch. The tomato slice was good. The white slice we found flavorless. The best flavor was the Brooklyn. I generally review and rate with a standard cheese slice. Maybe, fresh whole pies would have yielded a better result. I so wanted a dough experience like L'Industrie, Lucia, Mano's, Scarr's, Jonny's, Luigi's and the new hot spot Ceres (when they get it right and they don't all the time). First, I would suggest they figure out a way to scale the demand a little better. Next time I'm in the hood, I'll try it again and hopefully not have to wait close to two hours...
