I want to love this place so much — it’s an adorable little cafe and now with Covid they have a wonderful tent setup outside for guests to sip and eat al fresco, however, my experience there has been immensely disappointing - twice.
I’ve tried to go and get a few hours of work done on my laptop and both times I’ve been met with a very rude employee. The first time, I ordered a coffee and asked if there was a table inside close to an outlet so I can plug-in (so I can stay awhile) and her answer was ‘no outlets’ and walked away from me.
The second time, just two days ago, I went in with an intention to sit outside under their new tent and work (with a fully charged laptop since I now knew outlets weren’t likely.) I walked up to the counter where two employees were chatting amongst themselves and asked if they have wifi available and one replied ‘no’ never making no eye contact with me or asking if she could get me anything - just continued chatting to the other employee. It is 2021 - everyone is working remote these days - and the entire place was empty! Not a soul was there. Now here I am willing to stay and work for a while more than likely resulting in me ordering coffee, then lunch, maybe a pastry later on - but clearly nobody there cares.
I’ve never experienced less than 5 star service at the Paris In Town at Downtown at the Gardens. Friendly staff, wifi, would probably run an extension out to me if I needed it.
If I could give no stars I would. I guess the one star goes to their croissants and iced coffee. But trust me, get it to go! Not worth dining in with those...
Read moreAt first glance, I really liked this place-a charming, quaint little bakery-turned-coffee-shop that seemed plucked straight out of a storybook. Unfortunately, that initial glow quickly dimmed once I encountered the service, or rather, the absence of it.
We stood by the "Please Wait to Be Seated" sign, hopeful and patient, but as minutes ticked by, servers floated past us like ghosts--no eye contact, no greeting, not even an acknowledgment that we existed. When we finally decided to seat ourselves at an empty table, the saga continued. We waited another 20 minutes, entertained only by the impressive effort the staff seemed to make in avoiding us and every other customer. It was almost comedic, like we'd stumbled into a surreal restaurant-themed prank show.
Watching other diners give up and leave became the unintentional entertainment of the morning. Determined to see this through, I finally approached a server to confirm if, in fact, they were open for business. (Spoiler: They were.) Once we managed to place our order, the coffee and food arrived quickly. The quality? Good. Not extraordinary, not terrible-just good enough to remind me why I fell in love with the space in the first place.
All things considered, this could have been a spot l'd frequent, but the service was so conspicuously absent it felt like our very presence was unwelcome. A charming venue is nothing without a sense of hospitality, and sadly, this was the Achilles' heel of an otherwise average café. Would I return? Only if they swapped their invisibility...
Read moreParis in Town is a truly remarkable and wonderful place! I have been coming to this restaurant for years. It is the most authentic Parisian cafe experience in the county. It is nice to be at the cafe when not many customers are around and to sit and to write and to enjoy a mimosa or two. Their sandwiches are so good and there are several to remember on their menu. I recommend the Le Bastille (chicken salad on baguette), and Le Mabillon (roast beef, kalamata olives and brie cheese on a baguette) Also, for dessert, I recommend their mixed-berry tart. All of these, are absolute favorites. I like their goat cheese and red peppers quiche as well with a side salad of mixed greens and balsamic vinegar, so great! There is so much to enjoy here. While I read previous reviews about those not having a good service experience, in my estimation, they are great. I know all the staff by name. To be fair, it is difficult to be a server/waiter/waitress today, and everyone should feel welcome. Servers do not get paid well, so be patient. Not many people want to do these jobs. Yet, I believe Paris in Town, is an appreciable gem. The food is great and the atmosphere is special. There is canned French music in the background and all the tables have their unique vibe. I will continue coming back to have my corner of France in this little strip mall off US1 and Jack Nicholas Drive (incidentally, I have seen Jack here too). Please consider a stop here for lunch. It will be worth it and...
