I grew up in this area and recently moved back nearby, so getting to walk just 6 minutes to Mama Wok for dinner was a nostalgic treat—I hadn’t been back in over 10 years. The restaurant has been renovated and now feels much more open and modern. They’ve really focused their menu around Chinese cuisine, offering a great variety of dishes we typically love, like roasted duck, steamed dumplings, Fei Teng fish fillet, three cups chicken, and hot chili sauce beef.
We started with the black fungus mushroom garlic cucumber appetizer, which was cool, refreshing, and full of flavor. Then we shared the Szechuan-style dry hot pot, loaded with shrimp, fish balls, sliced meat, and lotus root. It was bold, spicy, and packed with texture. We also tried the eggplant dish, which was absolutely delicious—tender and richly sauced.
The food felt authentic and satisfying, and they also have familiar classics like spring rolls and Kung Pao chicken for those who may not want something super spicy or traditional. Service was friendly and attentive, and there’s plenty of free parking out front. One thing I did wish for: a drink menu. I would’ve loved a cold beer or a glass of Chardonnay while waiting for my friend.
Mains start around $18.95, so it’s on the pricier side for Chinese food—we spent about $35 per person without drinks. That said, the food and convenience make it worthwhile. I’d definitely come back to explore more of the menu, especially while I’m still walking distance. We’re moving closer to Potomac in the next couple months, so I’ll be taking full advantage of being able to pop in for a Thursday night dinner with friends while...
Read more3rd time ordering from MaMa Wok and a 3rd miss, unfortunately. I recall my first order being Lo Mein, second General Tso and third Sweet & Sour chicken. My review is consistent with other customers stating it was a miss in flavor. My latest dish was a simple Sweet & Sour chicken which is chicken in breading....at least that's what it should have been. The chicken was dry and the meat to breading ratio was off (more breading than dry chicken). I called the restaurant to make them aware and they offered to replace which is great however, I need to work my way through the menu to find a tasty replacement option. My reccomendation for the Owner is to take all reviews with a grain of salt but to identify comments where people are saying the same thing about taste and quality. Customer Feedback should be taken as an opportunity to grow and improve. It's time to retest the staff and TRY the dishes they are giving to your customers OR limit your menu to dishes they have the best experience preparing. I will do my best to keep working through your menu in hopes I find something satisfactory....
Read moreThis little restaurant has the most delicious food! I had the crispy squid that just melted in my mouth with goodness after a couple bites. It had the right texture and wasn't tough at all. I actually ordered a plate to go it was so good. I had the sushi burrito and let me tell you, you get what you're paying for and then some. For the price, you get a nice sized portion. The only thing bad about it was that I couldn't finish the other half so I'm saving that for dinner. The third thing that I got was the Naruto. So. SO GOOD. I didn't check the ingredients but there was roe, tuna, avacado, not sure what the other fish was and then the cucumber. No rice, so maybe it's keto friendly? That being said, it was all delicious and the service was top notch. Definitely a place I'd recommend going to. Worth it and you definitely get what you pay for and then some! I ate the squid so quick that I forgot to take a photo but here's a photo of the Naruto and the...
