My students recommended Cafe Rio in Germantown a while back, so when one opened in Rockville I decided to give it a try. We ordered the “Saturday Special” which was shrimp tacos (made them coconut shrimp) and a steak quesadilla. All adult portions, and I told the server to put everything on it. I didn’t order any drinks, went with waters. Came out under $20. I split it with my two kids. It was enough food but not as much as I expected from the pictures on their menu board. I wanted more salad or greens. My mom ordered tres leches dessert and it was fine, but a bit too sweet for my taste. She had been here for the opening and was a bit disappointed this second time around. The horchata is not authentic, taste more like sugary milk. But the Te de Jamaica was good. Overall, I would give them another try. However, I still like Baja Fresh better for their portions and taste. I do have to say Cafe Rio does have more variety though.

I used to visit this Café Rio often, but after my recent experience, I won’t be returning. I ordered a Tostada bowl and was shocked when they tried to charge me extra for a slightly larger portion of Pico de Gallo. I've never been charged for extra Pico anywhere else, whether it's at Chipotle, California Tortilla, or any other Mexican restaurant—it's always been complimentary. To make matters worse, the staff (the manager) was rude when I questioned this charge. The bowl was also the smallest I've ever received, which only added to my disappointment. If this is indeed a new policy, it’s a ridiculous one, and it’s a shame that customer service has taken such a downturn here. I won’t be back, and I’m very disappointed in what used to be a favorite spot of mine.

Went in at 9:34pm on a Thursday and they were already closing the store down, soda machines, all the toppings were gone. The lady that served me seemed bothered that I was there. I ordered enchiladas and when she put my beans on the plate she just flopped the beans and it’s juice all over of the enchiladas and threw the plate in the oven and continued closing the store(cleaning). I couldn’t even get lettuce or sour cream. If I wasn’t starving I would’ve just said no thank you. They need better management. Your employees shouldn’t be making to go plates when a customer is at the ordering line. Not the first time I’ve had subpar service at this specific location but it will be my last. Update: Was not edible threw it away.

Disappointing Experience at Cafe Rio - Won't Be Returning to This Location

I recently visited Cafe Rio this past Wednesday, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. Despite the initial positive impressions, several issues arose that significantly impacted my overall satisfaction.

First and foremost, I opted for the special of the day (Tostada plus drink for about $10.49), only to find myself overcharged ($16.62 after tax). To my dismay, the final amount exceeded even the regular price of the item ($14.71) to which I didn't get any extras. This left me feeling frustrated and questioning the transparency of the pricing at Cafe Rio.

Furthermore, my visit began with a delay in placing my order. I had to wait for the staff to finish preparations as they had just opened 15 minutes prior. While I understand the importance of proper setup, it was disheartening to have to wait before being able to place my order, especially during the restaurant's operating hours.

On a positive note, I must acknowledge that the workers were courteous and friendly, which helped alleviate some of the initial disappointment. Additionally, the food, although not exceptional, had a decent taste.

However, despite these positive aspects, the issues with overcharging and the delay in service overshadowed my overall experience at this particular Cafe Rio location. As someone who typically frequents another Cafe Rio branch, I regret to say that I will not be returning to this specific location in the future. I hope that these concerns are addressed promptly to ensure a more satisfying experience for...

Since this is a new location close to my home I wanted to give it a try. After downloading the mobile phone app and ordering thru the app, I went to pick up my order. The restaurant looked nice and clean. When I got home I found out that my food was cold, I ordered about 1 and a half hours prior to picking up and set a time for pick-up thinking it would be an easy way to get my food and expecting it to be made fresh right before my arrival. It was dissapointing. My husband had the quesedillas and they looked dreadful, I had the sunday special which was a pasta. I think it would have tasted a lot better when warm, since there was salad, salsa fresca, pico de gallo and sour cream on top I didn’t want to put it in the microwave. I guess I won’t be going again. Ready to delete their app...
