I really wanted to love Between the Bun, as Iām a big supporter of locally owned restaurants and small businesses. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We visited on a Saturday around 3 PM for a late lunch/early dinner. The atmosphere was okayāa lot of TVs, a bit of a warehouse feel, and a long bar with a pool table. However, no one greeted us when we arrived, so we seated ourselves.
The service left much to be desired. When I asked about their seasonal craft beers (as recommended on the online menu), the server told me they didnāt have any and only had a couple of draft beers. Instead of listing the options, she pointed to the beer handles across the bar and told me to go take a look myself, which wasnāt very helpful. I ended up ordering a White Raja, and my husband ordered a Dortmunder, but they later informed us they were out of that, so he had to settle for a Miller Lite.
I ordered the Ferg Burg ($13), which sounded amazing on the menu: 80/20 beef, garlic spread, Gruyere cheese, sautĆ©ed onions, bacon, and A1 sauce. Unfortunately, the toppings were so minimal it felt like they were rationing them. I couldnāt taste the cheese or the A1 sauce, and if there was bacon, you couldāve fooled me. While I appreciate that they claim to buy local beef, according to their website, the burger was dried out, leathery, and far from the medium I ordered. To make matters worse, the burger was tiny, and for $13, I felt completely ripped off.
My husband ordered a side salad in addition to his burger, but he didnāt receive any chips with his meal, even though the menu said burgers come with chips. He paid full price for the salad, so it wasnāt an alternative side. The burgers were so small that when the waitress delivered one to a big guy sitting nearby, I actually told my husband Iād be embarrassed if I were her.
Itās frustrating because this isnāt just a general restaurant where I ordered a burgerāthis place specializes in burgers, and they failed to deliver on that. While I wanted to support this local spot and was hoping to write a positive review, I canāt overlook the poor food quality, tiny portions, and lack of attention to detail. Unfortunately, we wonāt be returning.
In response to the owners reply Thank you for responding, but just to clarify, I never said you specialized in craft beers. Your menu suggested asking about seasonal drafts, which I did, and the waitress told me you donāt have any. When I asked her what was on draft, she pointed to the handles behind the bar and told me to go take a look. Thatās not what I would consider good service.
Also, thereās no way the burger I received was 1/3 poundāIād be surprised if it was even 1/4 pound. On top of that, it was way overcooked, dry, and served cold, despite ordering it medium. I sincerely hope you take some of these reviews into consideration, as I think the concept of your restaurant is a good one, and I want to see small, locally owned places succeed. I wish you the best...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI found this place when doing an internet search for restaurants in the area. It was hard to find, as there was no sign near the road, and the building sits back a ways. I passed it twice before I finally found the building and driveway. We were not welcomed upon walking in the door. Observed a sign that said to seat my own buns. I felt like I was in a warehouse - no carpet on the floor, tables spread apart, no dividers between them. There were TV screens and a bar - sort of felt like Applebees (without the carpet). The food was prepared quickly. The branding on the bun was a nice touch. The bacon cheeseburger was "ho hum." I was not impressed with it, and it definitely needed more flavor! They forgot the grilled onions but brought them after I asked about them. The French fries and tater tots were good, though, and the portions were adequate. The pool table was missing balls, so our money was refunded. The few games are good for young kids, but I felt the duck claw machine should have cost less. I ended up spending about $15 for my young one to play that - really not worth it, but they weren't interested in the other things there. The bathroom smelled nice, but the odor was overwhelming, especially for one of us who happens to have asthma. I found it odd that a hairbrush was placed in a basket or something near the sink (presumably for public use), and a youngster with me wanted to use it, but I wouldn't allow it. I feel it is unsanitary to use someone else's hairbrush, unless it is sanitized between uses. I felt like the food was a bit overpriced, compared to some places. Spent about $35 just for an adult, a child, and one beverage. I doubt we will be back. When I shared my comments with a family member, they told me they had ordered carryout from there previously, and they weren't impressed either. North Ridgeville needs a restaurant with great burgers - and Between the Bun has great potential. They just need to do better when people give them feedback and not just apologize (in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCame in here on a Friday evening. Place is big, somewhat loud, and well lit. Itās exactly what I would expect from burger joint/sports bar. Music was a mix of good alternative rock and country. Sat at the bar. The bartender came up to me right away and gave me a menu and soon after took my drink order. Decent selection of beers. It was obvious he was busy though. Seemed to be the only person who could make mixed drinks. I ordered the Pickle Fries, Shroom and Swiss burger with tots. For a place that specializes in burgers, I expected him to ask me what temperature I wanted my burger. But he didnāt, which did not bode well since I like medium. The pickles fries came out first. They were cooked fine, but holy crap were they salty! I like salt, but this was too much for me. The burger came out next, and to no oneās surprise it was well done and too salty as well. I mean this thing was dry. I had to add ketchup to finish it. The shrooms and onions and cheese were fine, but didnāt add enough to overcome the dryness. The tots were the best thing I had. They were cooked well and surprisingly not too salty. I did ask one of the waitresses (who may have been a manager/owner?) if they take requests for other temperatures. She said they have two options: some pink or no pink, and that the bartender should have asked me. I am not going to hold this against the bartender, he was busy. But if I do decide to come back, I will be sure to request āsome pinkā. I really wanted to love this place because I want to support local businesses, but they definitely fell a little short. Will I try again? Probably. Am I dying to go back?...
