Asada Grill & Cantina — Restaurant in North Township

Update: Two years later, we tried them again hoping maybe we just had an off day. We both had a margarita, which didn’t taste anything like a margarita and was not something I’d try again. I tried a Paloma after which was just as bad. Then we had 2 appetizers (small portions) and a single item from the a la carte menu. Our bill would up being $80. Their menu says bills over $60 have an automatic 20% added so I asked our waitress if that was on there and she said no. Not sure why it wouldn’t be if the menu states it would be. Even if that was after tip, it wasn’t worth the price. But we left a tip on top of that and it was a very expensive, disappointing night. I feel like we were lied to about the tip and I wish I bothered to asked for the itemized receipt back ( weird they take that one when they bring your card back). So yeah, we will never be trying them again. So many other Mexican places in the area and you’ll get way more bang for your buck

I'm genuinely shocked by all the rave reviews on the food, as well as the poor reviews regarding service. It's reversed for me. Service was fine, nothing to complain about. However, the food was absolutely disappointing. Far from authentic, lacking flavor, low quality meat, just all around bad. And the margaritas were awful. May as well been from Chili's, so I guess if you like that kind of thing... Just tasted like sour mixer. And the prices were high on top of it all. I can't understand the hype. Both the steak burrito and steak enchiladas were made with different cuts, the burrito was shredded and enchiladas were chunks. It wasn't fatty at least, but it was bad. Nothing had spice, no sauces are provided, and it was all around just awful. I'm only giving 2 stars since I felt the service was fine and somewhat quick...

Dismal is probably the best description I can give of this meal.

The place was pretty busy which is usually a good sign. The smell of grilled meat as you walked on from the parking lot was amazing. It’s too bad that’s that’s where the goodness ended.

We ordered a starter of guacamole, one combo platter (enchilada, tostada, and sope) and one plate of sopes.

The service was kind of slow overall. It took a long time to get our order taken. Our guacamole arrived with the main dishes which also took quite a while to arrive. I can tell for sure it took a while because my partner finished a whole beer before any food hit the table - not even the guacamole which is usually a quick thing to arrive.

When the food came, one of the plates was so lukewarm we sent it back and in my opinion both plates should have gone back but he didn’t want to send his back as well.

The sopes were the worst dishes on both our plates. The corn masa was just lackluster and unseasoned. It didn’t taste like anything but mush.

The avocado tostada was pretty good but that’s really just “take a crispy shell and throw some nice slices of avo and some salad on top” so it’s something most kids could make. The cheese enchilada was okay but I was grateful not to be getting a plate full of them.

The salsa was probably the best thing about our meal.

I had been here when I was in the area a few years ago and remembered it being pretty good which makes it even more disappointing our food and service were...

I've been to this place quite a few times. The food had always been great and the drinks were very drinkable!! Last night I went with my girls and something was a little off. We ordered a drink called the Black Dalia. It is a frozen margarita and sangria mix. Quite tasty!!! I ordered the chicken fajita. It was sizzling and pretty, but it had no flavor. I added some mole, which is very good, and I was back in business. The server was attentive and very personable. My problem occurred when he brought out checks and proudly announced that the tip was included. Generally, you can look for it to be added to a party of six, but there were only four of us. This young man profiled us! He decided that he didn't trust us enough to give him a fair tip so he gave it to himself. Four nicely dressed, professionals, enjoying a night out and each other's company, couldn't be trusted to give a fair tip!! I'm very disappointed and a little hurt. The place is always clean. The washrooms are always spotless. The service is always great, the food has been better, and the mole is to die for, but I will not be back to this place! He had no reason to believe we wouldn't tip him! He not only shorted himself, he insulted me. An establishment must display its policy clearly, and where customers can see it. I believe it to be for a party of six or more. If this is how they are going to treat me...Thanks...
