Johnel's Restaurant — Restaurant in North Township

I am giving them one star because I'm forced too just in order to post! Because of the incident that happened on my child's birthday on July 3rd. at the Ramada INN which we ordered from Johnel's for our dinner. We ordered our food over the phone to be delivered to the hotel. I called & made the order, but my mom decided she didn't want it, within five mins. I called back and cancelled. Either the young lady didn't tell them right away OR they decided we were paying regardless, because it was the end of the day, and they wanted the money. Regardless.... I Then we went downstairs to the pool to enjoy our time there. The receptionists saw my whole family go out to the pool but yet, decided to call the room when the food was ready, instead of coming outside to the pool a few steps away from the desk he sat at. Time went by and I'm assuming the owner assumed we weren't going to pay for the food I cancelled ALREADY. And told the receptionist to notify us, that if we don't pay, we will be out out of the hotel without a refund. Now mind you , we haven't spoken to ANYONE since I cancelled the order!!! So knowone knew they were calling because we were all swimming. They came outside and stayed at have to leave unless we pay. Me and my fiance went to speak with the OWNER which claimed that he also owned the hotel. And he simply told us in such a nasty and revolting manner that, that we either pay, or get out. Even though we explained to him what happened with his employee that answered the phone and the fact that knowone has spoken to us and told us the food was coming regardless of cancelling the order. He looked at us and said YOU people won't stiff me. While giving this look of irritation. So pay or get out. He never gave us eye contact but when he didn't realize I was looking at him, he was looking at my fiance with such disgust. The money wasn't the issue, it was the fact that he didn't care that there was an issue within his establishment. But that's when I realized he didn't care. Because US kind of people won't STIFF HIM!!! The worst experience and food ever. It was bland and rubbery. Nothing to force payment over. Nor treat other's so nasty. I was a loyal customer who would recommend this restaurant to everyone but not anymore. Went inside to place an order for carry out as usual. The cashier took our order but then placed it to the side telling us to wait so he could take other customers in line. Mind you we were first in line and nobody was behind us at first. He then proceeded to take the other customers in line and seat some customers as well. We were still waiting for someone to place our order to the cooks. We then decided to cancel our order because why should we have to wait if we were first before everyone there. When we tried to state our concerns we were dismissed with them saying they took care of the other customers first because it would be faster and dismissed with a “thank you have a nice day”. So rude. How much time does it take to place the order and have us pay for it so we could be on our way like everybody else. We used to love coming here but not anymore. We were very displeased with the service today and will never recommend this location to anyone else. Johnel's provides consistently-great food at the hands of an attentive staff, both dine-in or to-go! Call ahead to hear daily specials & the rotation of freshly-made soups.

When the U.S. locked down with virus fears, Johnel's regrouped, offering carry-outs only - at first, then re-opening in stages per Indiana mandates. Rather than locking the doors, they kept the lights on, the stoves hot, & many employees working, which I can respect.

To those of you who choose to leave snarky reviews, take your entitled, uber-critical self, plus a wad of cash from your trust fund, to a Ritz Hotel - where you MIGHT find satisfaction. (Remember: Sometimes you're only getting back the same attitude that you're dishing out.) Leave the safely-spaced seating at Johnel's for the rest of us to enjoy the value-priced fare & warm smiles that we always find there!
