We had our wedding on 9/7/2024 and I cannot tell you that I felt welcome when I went to the Baking Institute the last minute on 8/10/2024 for the cake tasting due to my tight schedule. They were able to take me, my mother, and my aunt! The tasting went fantastic! I knew exactly what me and my husband wanted and was part of the package from the Marriott Chicago O’hare! We were pretty simple but yet detailed of what we wanted our cake to turn out to be! It was exactly what we wanted and also added our first initial to our first names. I am extremely happy that they have listen to details and they were able to put in that order with 3 weeks prior to our wedding! They were quick and very sufficient with our needs and I truly can’t thank them enough for spending time even when it passed a little bit of our appointment time. We truly didn’t feel rushed at all! I forgot what his name is that we had for the tasting but we can’t thank him enough! The only one thing I would truly suggest is maybe do more than 30 minutes up to 45 for the appointment overall but as I have stated, we were not truly rushed! Thank you very much and I will come back and order for future occasions!

My banquet hall was partnered with the institute. I'm gonna start out with a positive. The cake was truly delicious. All of my guests raved about it. Even after the tasting I was looking forward to having it again. The meeting with the vendor was a little awkward the gentleman seemed annoyed with me. I do know I had the last appointment of the day.I figured maybe he just had a long day, so i brushed it off. He felt pretty confident on my design. He seem like it was going to be easy to do. I had a very simple design, so i left without a care in the world. People really expect me to go over the top. I had a Halloween Wedding, and I wanted something very simple, and elegant. I was very disappointed when I saw my cake.I didn't let it bother me during our party, but now the more I see pictures. The more i'm annoyed by it. It literally looks like a little kid drew it. I really feel like they should have practiced the spiderweb design first on a piece of paper or something. I do not know who thought this was acceptable to send out for a wedding. I'm really disappointed, because they had all these beautiful cakes and I can't say that mine was.

I was very disappointed with our wedding cake. The venue we hired for our wedding covered the base cost of the cake if you use their vendor (the Baking Institute). The reviews we found were great so we went with it. To start, I made my tasting appointment a month or more ahead of time online, got an email confirmation, but the day of they said they didn't have us in their system for an appointment. They were very rude about it, but after I got upset that we drove 2 hours for it and I had the email confirmation to prove it, they let us have it any way. I had gone to some of my friends cake testings and they were fun and really made you feel special. Not this one. We wanted a more detailed design on ONE of the layers. It took at least 5 times explaining what we wanted WITH pictures to get it right. Adding fondant and a batman symbol to the one layer was an extra $276. After all that, it came out extremely amateur looking for the hassle and the extra cost - especially considering how nice some of the cakes on their site and in the reviews are. Attached are the picture we showed them and then what we actually got.

My fiancé and I recently attended a cake tasting that left us utterly disappointed and downright appalled. Firstly, the location of the tasting was in the middle of a mundane office lot, with a Home Depot-like vibe that left a lot to be desired.

As if that wasn't enough, our host was a woman who seemed to have taken a personal offence to our presence. Her unwelcoming greeting was only surpassed by the abrasive manner in which she told us to sit down at a round table. It was unbelievable when she came back and aggressively informed us that we were sitting in her seat.

Then came the cake. The woman carelessly placed it on the table, plopping it down like it was a mere paperweight. We began sampling the mango cake, only to find that there was absolutely no mango taste. We brought this to her attention, but she insisted that the mango taste was strong. This back-and-forth went on for some time, and we finally had to reiterate that the mango was either super subtle or entirely absent.

We were then asked about the platter color, and when we said silver, she proceeded to tell us a story about a previous client who spent 40 minutes deciding on the base color. She went as far as to say that she wanted to kill herself. This is no way to talk to clients, and we found it highly unprofessional.

To top it off, one of the cake samples was wet on the bottom, with visible water droplets around it. When we pointed it out and asked if it was frozen, she said no, that the cake is just moist. This left us wondering if we were even tasting fresh cake.

Overall, the cake tasting was a total disaster. From the poor customer service to the unimpressive cake samples, this experience left a sour taste in our mouths. We will not be recommending this place to anyone and would instead advise anyone looking for a cake tasting to steer clear of this...

If I had the option to give 0 stars I would. I asked for a quote on a cake on 06/07/2019. They were quick to respond so I give them credit for that. I sent a picture of the cake I wanted and communicated back and forth until the 12th with a final order including fondant cupcakes. Then I sent a follow up because normal bakeries will send you an invoice and at least ask you for a deposit. They said "we cancelled your order. We emailed you back on June 8th. We don't take late orders. WHAT?? So I pointed out how I have an email from them on 06/12 confirming the price and how I gave them the okay on the order and advised I will pick up. Response to that? "We will need the payment today then for $302.50 if you want this order." WOW!! It just gets better. Remember I said I already sent them a picture of the cake and gave them a final head count. So now they told me they need to take the bottom tier out and cannot put the little elephant decoration in the front. I'm a baker and the elephant is just a fondant glued in the front which has nothing to do with a headcount of a cake. It's a decoration. They responded that if I want a cake like the picture I sent to them (06/07/2019), it will be $220 now vs the $82.50 they quoted me back on 06/12/2019. A cake can be shrunk to 6 inches with a 4 inch cake decoration on the top. I told them on the original order that this was for 10 people(meant for a centerpiece decoration surrounded by cupcakes) and they mentioned nothing of this before. I don't care how good there cake might be but service is key. Would not recommend this place. Trust me, I have ordered many cakes in my life and never ever received service this bad and didn't appreciate the person responding to me so short with...

I just recently got married and ordered my wedding cake from Igor. When we went into the tasting we had a different cake in mind but from Igor’s suggestions we decided to go with a cake he had on display. We went over design, style and colors in detail which he wrote down and showered me with promises for the cake. I also emailed him a photo of my wedding dress color and design which he said he would replicate onto the cake detail. We paid in full and in cash the day of the tasting and took home a receipt that said paid. 3 weeks before the wedding we received emails that we had to complete our payment or that they would not make out cake. We tried calling and emailing several times and no one could find a record of us paying or reply to our messages. We had handed the money to igor and he claimed he had forgot to mark it. This was not even the worst of it all, when I receive my cake which I saw on the wedding day, it wasn’t even the cake I ordered. Wrong design, wrong color, wrong everything. We have been contacting Igor for 3 months now and he is reluctant to return our calls or do anything about his mistakes. Now that we finally got a hold of him he says that he is the designer and he made changes according to what he thinks looks good. He did not even think to inform us about this but took the money, promised everything, and delivered nothing. He also says he won’t compensate not even a penny because he thinks it was a beautiful cake and these are his words. I do not recommend any one to go here especially for your wedding cake. Igor is not only rude and way over priced, he does not even give you the cake you ordered....
