Nice place to shop for food, gas, clothing and many other merchandises, in bulk or as an individual item. Memberships fees help patrons to save money on all purchases. Staff are mostly friendly and helpful, with exceptions, for they are individuals with their own personality, a generous return policy is their Hallmark. Their house brand name may actually be products of named brand repackaged. Cash back feature is good and generous, yet they changed their rewards redemption features recently. Wish they will return to their original system of redemptions.
Just return from an unsatisfactory experience shopping at Costco. The cashier staff, who may also be a supervisor, was lazy, non-courteous, nonprofessional, argumentative, non-friendly, and bossy. I waited in line for check-out for a longer while, customer before me did not have a membership ID card and questionable ID. The cashier called and waited for supervisor to come and resolve the issue, waited for a longer while. it was during lunch hours, so time is precision, yet I waited till my turn to be serviced. Before scanning, I said to the cashier, that those items were not mine, she replied she knew and took my items ahead for scanning. I only had a few items and scanning was quickly done, she pointed to the receipt machine and said there is your receipt and processed to give me the change, as I was paying with a cash back "check" from Costco. Apparently or seemingly, she was not happy and lazy to count out some much change, over 300 hundreds, but she did it correctly! But due to the receipt issue, I asked her to turn over her ID hanging from her neck to show her picture with her name, she refused and said her name will be on the receipt and "told" me to take my receipt. That was bossy, and non-courtesy, she should pull the receipt for customer if customer left it in the machine. She can also login at the cashier with someone else references, so receipt may not show her real name, as compared to picture ID. That was unprofessional for her not to turn over her ID badge hanging around her neck. Then I said to her "you made the process difficult" Then she yelled out repeatedly, "how was it difficult, sir" That was argumentative, as I do not need to explain to her my shopping experience, nor do I need to discuss the matter with her, my opinion is valid regardless, as a customer. I simply left her counter and slowly walk away. She was not friendly as she thinks she can rebut my opinion in front of her and start an unneeded discussion with a staff of a membership only shopping location. With the larger amount of cash back, she should realize the customer is frequent shopper! Hope she will change her attitudes for unnecessary anguish from other customers dealing with her. Her name according to the receipt is Kathy!
When more shops are turning away from self check out, Costco still kept theirs. As more customers are stealing unintentionally or deliberated, no one knows for sure. Costco way of preventing thefts from customers are either to scan their membership card while in line and items selected, then when at self check out, scanning the membership card will just be a charged to their credit card, which is unjust way to pay, what if customers want to pay with other credit cards, it is allowed. Second way to prevant theft is to have attentive yet unfriendly staff stationed at the self check out, assuming all customers will steal from the store. When scanning an item and placed in wrong way, the machine will warn and will ask customers to place item in proper place, but staffer will also come over and acting in demand that the items have to be placed in proper location. Some customers move slower than others, some would not understand where is the proper location to place scanned items. No posted instructions nor friendlier staff to assist customers, instead of demanding customers to do as was told. Let see how long the self scanner system will continue to work at Costco Unsatisfactory...

Update.. : I don't love it anymore, the quality of employees went down the hill I guess, today 1/14/2022 at 11am I was there to use the Western Unions, forgot to have a mask on me so I walked to service desk/Western Union counter to ask for a mask, asked other employees for a mask and they all said no, waited for the lady behind the desk to finish help serving her coworker, and she also said she won't give me a mask, I asked if she can help me with my WU money transfer and she said not without a mask "without offering a solution!" And so I asked am I supposed to go back home get a mask and come back? She said, You should buy masks, I asked where are the masks, she said by the pharmacy, when I started walking to look for the pharmacy, she raised her voice saying " now you'll walk in the store without a mask". Completely rude, lazy not willing to service customers, service desk employee. Couldn't get her name because her name was written in tiny letter on her tag "for an obvious reason". The Western Union recipe I got doesn't have her name on it, but has a "awe" after "operator ID/No" I don't know if that's supposed to look like that or is she just hiding her identity from her customers for the terrible job she's doing.
When I came back from pharmacy with a mask on she was talking to a coworker who was barely covering his upper lip with the mask, he walked away when I came to desk to do my WU transfer, and then he came back and got served just fine with his masked barley covering anything.
So her job is to chat with coworkers, and get irritated when a customer approaches her...
