Their food truck came to Presbyterian apartments today. We had three options. We could choose a rib plate with 3 ribs for $13, pork or chicken sandwich plate for $10, or 6 wings plate for $10. Everything came with two sides. Macaroni and cheese, baked beans, or coleslaw. I had never tried their food before, so I ordered one wing plate for lunch, and a pork sandwich for later. The wings were tiny legs with a sauce that was a little sweet. The macaroni and cheese was creamy and tasted like it should. The coleslaw - forget it. There was plenty of creaminess and mayonnaise, but there was a funky taste about it that I couldn't identify. I couldn't eat it beyond a couple of bites, nor could my friend. The pork sandwich was good, with a sauce that was tangy. It was chopped meat with a liquid drizzled in it. I tried a bite of the baked beans. They might have had chili sauce in them. They were good, just a little sweet and different. I would rather spend my money on pulled pork. If you like a lot of vinegar in your food, this might be for you. This wasn't good enough to try again...
Read moreYou all can't eat a bad meal here. But you just know when Mrs. Jane is on the pit, it will be off the charts. Tourist/Newcomer advice: Enter through the screen door, you'll walk into a small dining area, steer left into the original restaurant. Once here, if others are waiting, gravitate towards the back wall. Someone will notice you and take your order. If an elder comes in, give them your seat at the bar. Open the door for folks with a large order. You don't want a sandwich. You want a plate or a dinner. Large Rib Plate is 5 bones, white bread and sauce. Small Rib Plate is 4 bones, white bread and sauce. A mix Plate is ribs plus shoulder, scaled to to the above potions. Your white bread + sauce becomes a side dish, or sauce on it's own. To eat, grab some soaked bread, put that in your mouth, and then take a bite of meat. Order some sauce to go, keep it on your kitchen counter. It gets more spicy as it ages. You'll want to keep it in something non-reactive - it WILL rust through the ring and lid of a mason...
Read moreWe have been long time Dreamland customers but decided to try Archibald's based on the recommendation of a family member. It is a hole in the wall which right away screams great bbq. We got a slab of ribs, 6 wings, and a chopped pork sandwich. The ribs were meatier than Dreamland, tender and juicy and the sauce is incredible if you like a vinegar based Carolina style sauce (which we do). The wings were very small but cooked to order and the sauce is buttery and sweet with a hint of brown sugar. The sandwich was a hot mess but it was delicious. It's not really a sandwich but a bunch of meat piled on loaf bread but it didn't disappoint. We ended up going back for banana pudding and pound cake. The banana pudding was some of the best I have ever eaten and the pound cake was soft and had a great taste. There was not a single thing that we wouldn't order again. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were happy. We have found a new favorite bbq place in the...
