When I eat pupusa, I want it fresh! Warm, supple, ready to be lovingly caressed by my mouth. No thank you to old, stale, been around the block pupusa.
At El Tazumal, you'll hear the cooks loudly slapping together the masa & fillings of choice per order. Now, that's fresh! I lucked out & and was helped by a cashier who spoke fluent English. Most of the staff seemed to understand limited English, but just say what you want from the menu & you'll be in pupusa heaven in no time.
Pupusas (chicharron con queso & revuelta)- Thick, dense & very delicious, the pupusas were cooked perfectly. Hearty portions, enough to keep you full for the rest of the day. Of the two, I preferred the revuelta. It's the same as the chicharron con queso, save for added refried beans. The beans added a creaminess that I delighted in w/ each bite.
Included with the pupusas, was a ramekin of curtido. Curtido is basically spicy coleslaw. Texturally crunchy, bright & crisp, the curtido was a nice accompaniment to the main entrees.
Speaking of spicy, make sure to add a healthy dousing of the various hot sauces.
Along with pupusas, El Tazumal offers breakfast, tacos, agua frescas & other menu items.
Service was good. Because food is made to order, there will be a wait. Depending upon the time of day, the wait can be short or quite long. I came around lunch time, and my wait came out to around 20 mins. Calling in orders is encouraged, but make sure to brush up on your Spanish due to the aforementioned limited English. 2 flatscreen TV's had the latest telenovela on for viewing. I watched a super hot Latina actress in bed with an obese, hairy, ugly hombre. Sigh What am I doing wrong? Seating for around 40+ via 2 - 6 person tables. A/C keeps the pupuseria cool, but not Artic cold.
Limited parking spaces to go along with street parking, El Tazumal is located on the right of a dance studio & across the street from H Mart.
You'sa want some pupusa? Pupuseria El Tazumal is the real deal! A tasty, inexpensive meal is what awaits those who order pupusas here. The only drawback is the wait, but by calling ahead and/or avoiding peak hours, fluffy corn pillows of happiness can be within your grasp, ready to tantalize the tastebuds. Besides, the wait is assurance your food is fresh. And fresh is best! I'm already salivating at the thought of once again noshing on El Tazumal's pupusas, which next time I'll probably go for another revuelta & try the queso con lorocco.
Highly...
Read moreThis place took advantage of me and my girlfriend! I called on the phone to order 6 pupusas and it was my first time ordering from here so she confirmed the order & we drive to pick up our food, when we get there I ask my girlfriend to get off to get it. She then gets off and she comes back to the car telling me that the total was $116. I then got off mad because I was like why are 6 pupusas $116!! My girlfriend said that the lady didn’t review the order with her, she just asked for the name and took the card and charged it. Turns out the lady charged me for 50 pupusas and she didn’t want to give me my money back! She said that I ordered THAT amount on the phone. It...
Read moreI would never go back to this place even if the food was free. First, I walked in and there was funky smell. I tried to stay positive and assume it was something they were cooking. Second, my food took forever. Third, I left with my food. Halfway to my house the lady called me telling she gave me the wrong order. I went back to pick up my original order, and not offered any compensation for my time or gas. Finally, I got home ready to eat turns out my food was cold and bland. I really tried to like this place but after my first and final experience. I would never go back to this funky...
