Remind me to mention the leaf blowers.
Because OMG the leaf blowers.
This motel 6 has ameneties others dont, and that's why I booked 28 days.
Reasons to stay: Coin laundry open 24/7, microwave and fridge in every room, big screen tv mounted to the wall, basic cable (not Dish which has such a lame interface), adequate storage furniture, closet bar and hangers, and the windows feature shutters instead of curtains, which is cleaner and looks nicer. I felt safer being able to peak out the shutters than having to pull open a blackout curtain. There is plenty of parking near your room and the parking lot is brightly lit. A security guard monitors the lot and he is friendly if you engage with him. There is one ice machine, but using is was never a problem.. Here are the minuses: Pillows, bed linens, trash removal, cigarette smoking, the leaf blower, the other leaf blower, and the other leaf blower. Did I mention the leaf blowerThe pillows were tiny, old, and rumpled. They do not ever offer housekeeping ever for any reason. At the Cypress Motel 6, for example, they check in every morning to see if you want new towels or paper or trash bags. There is no procedure explained for how to dispose of trash, get new linens, get new consumables, etc. Housekeeping only knocks to see if you're checking out. This lack of clear procedure for renewing supplies and taking out trash opens the motel up to lots of random bags of trash plopped here and there, and twice I was told by the room cleaners that they didn't even have any towels or sheets even if I wanted them. The sheets were thread bare and no longer white. The blanket was thin, the pillows seemed like a joke. My room, 332, was very dirty around the floorboards, in the corners, and on the walls. I brought my own mop and cleaned up the walls. Biggest, most obvious problem: cleanliness of the grounds. This motel was always filthy. People staying at or visiting the motel were very disrespectful and some straight up trashy people just destroyed the parking lot and the walkways a few times with drinks spilled all over, trash everywhere, cigarette butts, food. Once there was even a trail of blood that didn't get cleaned up for nearly 6 days after a stabbing. There were drug deals galore, and people smoking fentanyl right in plain site. I started wearing only black soled shoes bc my other shoes were getting ruined by the filth in the parking lot and I was tracking that into my room. I went and bought door mat rugs so I could try to keep clean. I had to use a dust mop and wet mop every day becasue it was so dirty. use I personally liked the motel staff in the lobby, and all of the cleaning staff were friendly which is a good sign. This motel is rough to manage with over 100 rooms, three floors, and two wings. Whoever put a microwave and fridge in every room was smart - there are more expensive motels in the area where you have one micrlwave to share for all guests, and that wouldn't work here. There are a lot of transient people, people staying for just one night, people meeting up to exchange trade items, people meeting up with dates, families with children, lots of dogs, people with disabilities, senior citizens, young adults, groups of young adults in gang attire, people with noticeable gang and prison tattoos, and definitely people who were not paid guests, so it's to their credit that they are able to maintain it at all. I noticed many positive changes while I stayed here. Yesterday, they washed the walkways and put sealer on them to make them glossy. But the one thing that is nearly intolerable is the leaf blower guy.
Three times a week, a guy would use a gas powered leaf blower and blow all of the dust and trash from the upper floors down to the ground below. So anyone underneath or outside or with their window open, got to breath cigarette ashes, dog poop, trash, dust, construction dirt, freeway pollution, animal hair, and who knows what else. Every car was covered in dirt. And he took forever and didn't know how to use it right. I've never seen such a...
Read moreRemember the saying, "you get what you pay for." That is exactly what you can expect here. I booked a 4-night stay through my My6 membership in a room that included 2 queen beds, a mini fridge and a microwave. It was offered at a little over $300, which was significantly less than most other motels or even Airbnbs with similar amenities. However, at check-in, the first thing that rubbed me the wrong way was that I was charged an additional $25 deposit. Not a big deal because in their policy under "Room Payment / Advance Payment", it read, "If the guest is using a bank card or debit card, the card 'may' be authorized for the amount of the stay PLUS INCIDENTALS", which can be defined as incidental expenses. In other words, you break it, you buy it. I should have been informed of the deposit and its specified amount at the time of booking, but I wasn't informed of either until at check-in. On my way to my room, the scent of marijuana was in the air. You'll get the sense that it's not something that's not tolerated at the property, given that I observed a security guard on duty, sitting at the northwest corner of the building seeming to have little interest in investigating the origin of the scent. When entering my room, that's where the real fun began. I observed cockroaches maneuvering throughout, on the ceiling, walls and in the bathroom. Kill one, and another two popped up. I discovered hairs and what appeared to be food crumbs within my bed linen. There appeared to be a strong wifi signal. Yet, there was constant connectivity issues. The internet was slow much of the time. The room TV would not connect at all. So, no streaming. Only a combination of basic cable and some over-the-air local channels were available to watch. Upon requesting an additional towel, I was informed of a one towel per occupant policy. Receiving clean towels were not permitted without the equivalent exchange of dirty towels. Again, not a big deal except there were less towels in my room than the number of occupants I'd booked for the stay. One cannot exchange what was never supplied. Perhaps, a lot of theft occurs. In addition to Motel 6's policy posted at the front desk, I would later see a separate policy posted on the door of where towels were exchanged. It turned out that towels and bed sheets were one-for-one exchange. So, perhaps the reason that I initially discovered hairs and what appeared to be food crumbs within my bed linen was because, rather than motel staff cleaning and restocking room supplies following the departure of the previous guest(s), guests are expected to exchange their dirty linen for clean, including that of previous guests. Who knows... There was an insufficient amount of soap and a ¾ roll of toilet paper available. There was no room phone. So, I spent more than a reasonable amount time at the front desk requesting supplies that should have already been readily available in my room. This might also indicate that the room had not been cleaned and restocked following the departure of the previous guest(s). Given the number of damages I observed in the room, I understand the necessity of a deposit. However, I doubt $25 deposit would cover the amount of damages I observed. And if cleanings and the restocking of supplies, let alone inspections, are not performed consistently following the departure of guests, why charge a deposit at all? It didn't appear staff were concerned with the condition of the room. But one thing is for sure. They have very competitive pricing. And you may not want to return, but you will and you'll put up with the current conditions if you want those rates. As long as people are are willing to pay, I suspect very little will change. The service and accommodations aren't great, but don't be too quick to write this one off. If you're on a budget and in need of a place to stay, it's worth a 2nd look. But it's not for the squeamish. YOU GET WHAT FOR...
Read moreMy daughters and I stayed here for over a week. The beds were comfortable and the room was spacious. We had a fridge and microwave in our room that was very convenient. I loved having access to the ice machine as I love ice. The pillows are small and we’re not that comfortable. Do be aware that this Motel 6 is currently under construction. The pool area is closed for repairs. We did have an electrical problem with my room the second or third night. We were watching tv and my daughter was making some popcorn in the microwave and all of sudden the room went dark. After calling the front desk someone came at first they had reset the circuit breaker and that worked. That person thought it may be the lightbulb in the lamp between the beds that caused the room to go dark. After changing the lightbulb everything was ok for a couple of nights. Then again we were watching tv but this time I was warming up a chicken sandwich from Dollar Tree when everything went dark again. This tome afterburner calling the front desk the worker went and flipped the circuit breaker and the power came back on. The worker then asked us to unplug the microwave and not use it till the morning. We agreed and about ten minutes later we were in the dark again. This time I called the front desk and the first thing the worker said was didn’t I tell you not to use the microwave. I ensured her that we did not use the microwave. We were watching tv when the power went out. After fussing under her breath about how she has to check guests in and that she can not keep coming back there to flip the circuit she said she will come fix it soon. We did have to wait sometime in the dark before she came. We could tell she was flipping the circuit breaker on but the power would only turn on fir a quick second then go back off. She tried a few more times still no power. Finally she said she couldn’t fix it and said she would switch our room. She opened the room next to mine and left. My daughters went and checked out the room the said the beds seemed bigger and were excited at first but when they tried to turn on the tv there was no power. After making sure the tv was plugged in and the batteries in the remote were working the tv still wouldn’t power on. My daughters were not going for this. They went to the front desk and let her know the tv was not working and requested a different room. They came back with our new room key which was right next to our current room. They checked out the new room and were very pleased. We moved into our new room and everything worked. The only other problem was getting clean towels. We figured it out. I will say Natalia who works at the front desk was rude towards me but before I could even respond to her rudeness her coworker Mitang had intervened and let Natalia know he was going to handle the situation. In which he did with excellent customer service. Before finally checking out I spoke with the manager his name is Leo. Leo is a very nice , helpful, and intelligent person. We had a very informative conversation that was beneficial to both parties. I will say I will come back and stay again. It is right next to the 91 freeway. There is. Denny’s in the parking lot. There is an Arco right next door and another gas station across the street that both accepts debit cards and EBT cards. There is a Stater Bros and Dollar Tree within walking distance. We felt pretty safe as we show the Sheriff department driving through the parking lot at various times. Also the price for a spacious room with two beds w/ a fridge and microwave, a shower/ tub with grab bars in the tub was a real bargain. As my girls and I are currently without a home I know hotels and motels are very expensive and often out of my price range. For that alone I say thank you to the owner of the Artesia Motel 6 and thank...
