Giving this 1 star for the experience that my husband and I had as an interracial couple. It was uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I think it’s important to add this review for anyone else that is in a similar situation and is deciding to come here so they are aware.
My husband, a dark complexion Hispanic and myself white. We went to this restaurant with our 7 month old son (in a stroller asleep) and immediately we felt uncomfortable. The host asked if we had a reservation and I told him no and he said well you guys should get the take out because there will be an hour wait. Right away I thought it was weird of him to say that but shrugged it off. We said no that’s fine we will get a table and get an appetizer from the take out window while we wait. We ordered an app from the window and were waiting for it, but before it was given to us the host called me saying our table was ready, but we would need to leave within the hour. So we went to the hostess and another man who was going to seat us asked if we had gotten take out and I said yes it was just an appetizer and the man at the window said he would bring it to the table for us. The guy seating us said, we’ll do you guys want to sit down at the picnic tables closer to the dock. I told the man no we would like to sit at the table. He then questioned us again and said well you know you have to leave in an hour and I said yes. It was at the point that we were seated that my husband and I agreed it was pretty clear that we weren’t welcomed there or to sit at a table and made to feel uncomfortable if we did stay, so we decided to leave before ordering.
I’m not exactly sure what the issue was, we were dressed appropriately. My husband in khaki shorts, boat shoes and myself in pants and dress shoes. I can only say that it was not a pleasant experience and we don’t plan on giving this establishment our business and won’t be recommending them to anyone in the area. I’ve never been one to write a review like this and given the times we are living in we don’t want to be overreacting, but this was dealing with multiple people at the restaurant. And it was very clear that we weren't welcome. Hope your dining experience is better if you do...
Read moreNot a place to just run in on Saturday evening (reservations are highly recommended), but we were - as often - lucky. The maitre d' was very accommodating and seated four of us under the condition that we vacate the table by certain time. The place is not visually outstanding from the rest of the seafood restaurants that pepper this stretch of a coastline. Parking is a little tight, but complimentary valet service takes those worries away. The place inside is not huge either, and was nicely packed with costumers. There is a rather intimate bar area (where one can eat as well), one dining room, and an enclosed porch with the view. Seasonally, there is also an opened deck seating in the back of the original crab shack. We were there during a heavy winter coats season, and the lack of a coat-room was being felt, both esthetically and space-wise. The ambiance is cozy-nautical, well appointed, fresh and clean. No wobbly tables, no suspicious smells. The floor of the enclosed porch will speak to anyone who ever set a foot on the sailboat - go and see for yourself. Service was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. Presentation of the food was not remarkable, but nonetheless pleasant. However, the taste was short of divine. The clam chowder was simply wonderful - not too salty, not too gummy, just perfect. Both pan seared salmon and sesame crusted yellowtail tuna were delicious. Main lobster and fettuccine - to die for. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients, and a skillful hand of a chef. For desserts we had NY cheesecake. Another winner. Needles to say - I highly recommend this place. It is usually pretty crowded, so perhaps not the ideal place for a romantic dinner for two, but certainly great for any other reason. Oh, yeah - the owner is my uncle... Just kidding. But I wish he was, so I can eat delicious seafood like this...
Read moreRowayton Seafood Restaurant offers a truly delightful dining experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, parking was a breeze with the attentive valet service awaiting us at the restaurant's entrance, providing a stress-free beginning to our lunch. With a reservation in hand (highly recommended due to the restaurant's popularity), we were promptly greeted by the ever-friendly and smiling hostess and escorted to our table on the second floor, boasting magnificent views of the waterfront.
The culinary journey commenced with dishes that tantalized the taste buds, showcasing some of the finest seafood offerings in the area. Each bite was a testament to the kitchen's dedication to quality and flavor, leaving us thoroughly impressed.
However, it wasn't just the cuisine that left a lasting impression; the staff's professionalism and efficiency added to the overall dining experience.
