So. Good. What a wonderful experience start to finish! Service was friendly and warm. Place was bustling for a Friday night but not overwhelming. Appertivo: chicharrone and charcuterie board. Pork belly was savory, well balanced with sweet potato, pickled onion, and this rich and creamy sauce. Started with a key lime martini and lunch time martini with a guest. Both were very enjoyable. I ordered an octopus main with a mescal margarita, perfectly smokey and balanced well with the flavors of the octopus dish. I've never had anything like it! The octopus had stewed tomato, capers, sweet potato puree, and incredible toasted pieces of corn or nuts that were to die for. So unique, I've never experienced flavors like that! Husband got the chicharrone sandwich. We got the melocoton cocktail, and two pistachio cocktails with picarrones for dessert.

All in all a lovely meal from start to finish! Atmosphere was nice, food was excellent and unique, service was enthusiastic. I highly recommend a dinner experience here. A true hidden gem of Peruvian food in Norwich.

ETA: Went for brunch today and WOW!!! BEST breakfast I've ever had in Norwich. I got the Lomo crepe. It had a generous portion of steak that was incredibly tender with a soy reduction and large chunks of tomato with a phenomenal Verde avacado sauce. Passionfruit mimosas and their purple corn juice. Amazing! Brunch, dinner .... anything you eat here will be top notch. Service is accomodating, warm, and welcome. Chef Julio came out and greeted us personally. A proud chef never hides in the back. This man is proud of his food and has every right to be! We LOVE Canngio! Our family...

I’ll begin my review with the thing I’m disappointed about the most: how the heck has this restaurant been around for 5+ years and I’ve only just discovered it now?! Let me tell you…Canggio far EXCEEDS even the most glowing reviews you’ll read here on Google. When we called this evening to book a last-minute reservation, the young woman who took the call was the equivalent of sunshine over the phone. Happy, cordial, beyond pleasant. When we arrived, the happy voice on the phone matched up to the bubbly, smiling person who greeted us at the door. Yup. I knew this dining experience was already off to an amazing start. My husband and I sat at the bar and we were served by Alayna, who provided us with much-needed assistance in choosing menu items. I legitimately wanted one of everything. When you see the menu, it will be clear why. We went with Alayna’s recommendations and each plate was absolutely divine. For an appetizer we had the ceviche and mussels. Entrees: I had the 1/2 chicken and my husband had the lomo. Then we finished with the sweet potato and pumpkin donuts (which I believe we’re owed some kind of award for inhaling in less than 60 seconds). The owner, Julio, came out and chatted with us at the end of our meal and it was really the perfect end to a perfect dinner. I’ve already put my husband on notice…I’m on a mission to try every dish on Canggio’s menu (including the red snapper that comes as a whole fish!). This restaurant is the definition of a hidden gem. For those who are lucky enough to discover it, you’re in for a very, very special meal! I cannot wait...

Terrible SERVICE, terrible experience! We were visiting some relatives and traveling from nyc to Norwich and wanted to try something with a Peruvian flavor but was the worst decision ever going to this place. Since the moment the manager ,I guess, didn’t speak Spanish (being a Peruvian American restaurant ) and answer with an attitude I knew it something was gonna happen. She transferred me with someone who didn’t understand Spanish very well either so took my order wrong. I ordered a whole chicken with yuca fries since they didn’t have what their menu says, so I had no options and nothing Peruvian. She said it was gonna be 32 something and when we went to pick it up they didn’t even try to give our change back, so at least let me decide what I’m going to give as a tip right? Of course we weren’t going to leave anything because the service didn’t worth it. When I went home and opened the bag it was half the chicken and nothing special, it had no flavor and was not what I ordered. I tried to call back and asked what happened and the manager again pick up the phone with a terrible attitude, almost assuming I was “crazy” making a big deal for being charged 32 for half chicken, of course I’m going to ask my money back because that was not what I ordered and being treated like you did. I’m Peruvian and I have been in many restaurants and obviously I would never recommend this place to anyone, if you want something Peruvian make a travel a little bit faraway because going to this place you are just wasting money, time and it’s not a Peruvian flavor and service...

If you love Latino food, with a nice style, this is the place for you. A bit out of the way place, but once inside it is another atmosphere. More related to places you'd find in Mystic. One thing I always notice in restaurants, is that if I ever seen seniors going there, it is a good spot. Seniors love nice places. If you go for dinner, you'll find plenty parking across the street. Very well decorated and you'll see the cooks preparing your food as you wait. I did not add pictures of the place inside because there are plenty already. So I focused on our food. I had never had French fried yuca. Now is a favorite. The chicken was amazing. And the Burger, that was a real burger. Like just look at the picture. The patty was a royal patty. And it was delicious too. As burgers should be. The water was NOT FROM TAP WATER, it was filtered as it should, or at least dodnt taste like that to us, as it does in most places we go to. And the juices were fresh juice. No ice. They did not cheap on the juice. They also served coffee, really good too, and NOT ON A STYROFOAM CUP, but a ceramic cup. The Peruvian donuts were amazing, and the chocolate cake too. Presentations were also very on point. I think we found our new favorite spot for special occasions. Specially wince they also have seats outside for summer time. And lively Latino music.
