I’ve been trying every highly rated Italian Beef place that I can find in the Chicago area, because I love Italian Beef’s and I’ve always been on the prowl for the best. Today I finally made it to Jays, and I can definitively say that this is the best I’ve had in my 41 year search. I still have many more to try, but this is the one I’ll come out of my way when I have a craving for a perfect beef. The homemade gardiniera is absolutely perfect. The fries were good too, although nothing to write a review about. The beef though, perfect. Best I’ve had, no doubt. And Okay, you can click on my reviews and see that I’ve only given five star reviews and think that I just give everything five stars, but that’s not the case. I own a restaurant, and if I have a bad experience I share it with the restaurant privately instead of online, with the hopes that they’ll take the feedback and try to improve. If I have a mediocre experience, I do nothing at all. If I have an exceptional experience, I write a review. This was absolutely exceptional. The place and the service feel very authentic, friendly but not kiss-assy, clean but not a chain, real old school beef joint. Go out of your way and try it

Extremely thin deli slicer sliced beef. (Their automatic slicer is cool as hell) Relatively fast service and friendly. Beef tears immediately. However, it's layered like they took a neat stack of shaved beef and dipped it, and put it on the sandwich without separating most of it. To me, it feels like I'm biting into a deli sandwich instead of an italian beef in some spots. The roll gives a weird off note right as the first taste, then followed by the beef. 0 spice heat from the juice. Far too little seasoning to meat ratio personally. The smell upon entering the restaurant was amazing, and I'm sure some of the other items I saw people order are great. But without giardanra to cover the lack of seasoning/spice, its not on terms with Michael's in Oak Park or Frannies in Schiller Park, but better than a Portillo's or Buona Beef. That was fine, but not worth going out of the way myself personally. 3.5/5

I joined a Facebook page dedicated to Chicago Italian beef sandwiches and this is one beloved spot and they are 100% spot on. The outside has a nice patio area that has to be a big draw in the summer. The inside is spacious and clean. The staff is friendly and typically old school knowing the lingo to deliver the beef just the way you like it. The sandwiches one of the largest I’ve seen and it PACKED with meat-I mean PACKED. The giardinara is the freshest I’ve seen and the taste is unforgettable with the right amount of heat and flavor. The hot oil also offers the exact balance. The heat doesn’t hit you, it sits nicely blended with the peppers and veggies. The fries were fried to perfection with a delicious crisp on the outside and a fluffy potato on the inside. This is not around the corner for me but this is going to be the place I go to when I want a really good beef.

Jay's Beef has always been a Fav no matter where we've moved, we would travel to get a Beef, and never had it disappointed. EXCEPT, tonight Wed, May 29, had out of Town Family from New Jersey and Tennessee, wanting to stop after a show in the city, around 1030pm, went since it was indicated they were open till 12am, First off, young man acted as if he were annoyed, with our party of four coming in, ordered, and went to pay , our Credit Card machine is down , you'll have to have cash, or go across the street for Cash. 2nd, asked why didn't you say before we ordered, well it just went down, I can't control. I'm now annoyed at the attitude and that you could have let us know before we placed our order. Next, order is up, go to eat, all Beefs are Luke warm, not even Hot, I go ask is the heater not on for the warmer of the Beef, oh yeah , well all Beefs are cold, well do you want me to warm them up? Dealt with the issue and just ate them. Had a side of juice for Dipping and you could see it's cold since the grease was on top, and Cheese on Sandwich is not even melted which is normally when you have a hot sandwich , so How, are you going heat up anyway to put in a microwave? I let it go, no one came out of kitchen to ask otherwise, fine whatever, while we're eating others came in so we weren't the only later comers, both eat in, one I seen bring his sandwich up , assuming to have warmed another as well. So Tell me I'm not the only one asking . This is definitely not making a good impression for future visits from people who have been visiting this establishment for more than 20 Yrs. Just an FYI, maybe people will continue to come, I'm sure It's a well know Establishment. But for spending $50 on a meal I expected this to be served hot to enjoy, was very...

My parents have been coming to Jay's since they opened in 1976. I am a neighborhood kid that lived near shabbona park and have been eating at Jay's beef since 1986. Yesterday I stopped in Wednesday August 06, 2025, I had a Combo sandwich juicy with sweet and hot with fries side of cheese and a Coke. I know in the past some of our restaurants within the area have changed over time and let me tell you this the cobbles still taste the same made the same from when I was a little kid. Everything Jay's beef offers is off the chain I usually go with either their combo or a steak sandwich. One of the sons suggested I try the Chicken Sandwich grill Chicken Sandwich on French bread Mayo lettuce tomato. I tell you this when I go in tomorrow which is August 8th Friday I will be getting the Chicken Sandwich again. Every time I go there I feel just like part of the family. I was eating yesterday I spoke with the owner we had a really pleasant conversation if you're looking to have a good time enjoy good food and if you're over 21 and like gaming they have a lot of machines. I will recommend Jay's beef to all my friends...
