Hattrick's Irish Sports Pub — Restaurant in O’Fallon

Let me preface this by saying we have been here before and the food was really good.

We talked in on a Saturday around 7pm. There might have been 15 people - most of them at the bar. Our server, Natasha was super nice and attentive - as were the other people who filled out drinks and took out plates, etc. (probably owners).

The food was just not it tonight guys. We ordered the app trio. I really was looking forward to some chicken strips but the wife wanted the mushrooms and shepherds pie bites. Thankfully she ordered those because the chicken strips were dry - like really dry. I was hungry, so I powered through using the gravy for the pie bites as dip.

I ordered a burger. Now, I get that some of these hipster places downtown can get away with charging 13 bucks for a small single patty burger...but this thing was not only tiny, it was hard. Like it had been cooked earlier and put back on the flat top from the fridge. Thankfully there was some bacon jam on it - because I was hungry and coming from restaurant experience, I NEVER send anything back. It took about 4 bites to eat the whole thing.

Wife got corned beef. It was like rubber and the cabbage was just OK. Definitely not something that was made that day. At least it didn't taste or look like it. The smashed potato was great...no issues with that.

The saving grace here is the salad I ordered. Croutons tasted home made and everything was fresh and there was plenty of cheese.the blue cheese crumbles were a nice touch.

I was still hungry so I ordered some fries. They tasted and looked freshly cut. But man they were mushy and over salted.

Look, I get that it is tough to run a restaurant these days. But we go out to eat all the time. There are at least four places within a mile radius that are doing things better and they don't charge as much. I might go back there again as you might have been having a bad night. But I likely will hit up the other places. I just can't justify leaving a place hungry after spending 80 bucks.

I get that this is a bar first and foremost. My wife did enjoy her mules.

On 1/19/25, my wife and I met a couple friends here. At the end of the night, our bartender, who was drinking shots with other bar patrons, delivered our bill. She charged us for 2-3 more drinks, per person, than we actually ordered. We challenged her on that, she was immediately aggressive. She told us she would call the police, claiming that we were not going to pay our bill. We told her we never said that, that we only wanted to pay for what we ordered. She came back, saying she would take off some portion of the bill, but was still aggressive. She delivered the new bill, which was unchanged. We decided it wasn't worth the hassle and paid the bill. The police arrived, we discussed the situation with them, they had no issue with us but told us we were not welcome to come back, to which we did not object.

We've been to this place before and it was a fun time. This felt like a staff member assuming they could shift pour cost on to an unsuspecting tab which...

I wanted so badly to find a little irish pub that I could go and enjoy, have a beer, a decent lunch and relax. I found only parts of that here. I walked in a very clean well put together place and was greeted immediately, nice vibes, good atmosphere, and very friendly people around me. I ordered the shepards pie app which i took one bite of and was done with it was definently not for me. Had the beer cheese soup which was good and would order again. Got a burger and house chips . the burger was good and really enjoyed it however, the house chips tasted of old fryer oil and fish crazy bad. I tried to mask with ketchup wouldnt do it. The bartender comes around and asks if i need a box for my 4.5 shepards pie appetizer i believe u get 5 per order and the mound of chips i say no thank you . She looked at how much food i left twice so i know she saw it brings check full price not even a question. May come back...
