Earlier this year, about half of my family visited Mikado Japanese Steakhouse, and let me tell you, we were impressed! Mikado is right outside of Ft. Campbell, so naturally there are times when it will be absurdly packed and then other times when it will be reminiscent of the wild west and a rolling tumbleweed. The building is very nice with a respective homage to the Japanese architecture pertaining to the doors, windows, and the torii at the entrance. The backside of the building leaves a little more for the imagination however, as it is somewhat plain. The parking lot was clean and was a little crowded, no surprise! Since there were about six of us, we had to wait for about 30 minutes to be seated for the hibachi section. As soon as you walk in, you can feel the atmosphere change around you. You can feel the excitement and anticipation from everyone. There is a lot of energy in the air. The building layout includes a dedicated hibachi section, 2-3 regular dining sections, a sushi bar, and a regular bar. The woodwork of the sections is beautiful and the frosted modern designed glass dividers add a unique touch to the ambiance. The restroom was very well maintained and clean. There was plenty of lighting, soap, paper towels, and the smell was not of a restroom, but of a flowery field. Once we were seated, the waitress diligently delivered drinks, clear (hibachi) soup, and a house salad. Our 'bar' (around the grill) was clean, the grill itself was immaculate, and the floors were well kept and maintained. The teppanyaki chef (the chef that cooks your food in front of you on the grill), came out with all of the required dishes and began to demonstrate his mastership! Our orders were double checked to ensure accuracy and he started to cook and entertain! Periodically, he would pull out a fake ketchup squeeze bottle and aim it at someone. This kept us all engaged in his performance and added a sense of homely atmosphere. For those of us who ordered the more traditional cuisines of the hibachi menu, the cultural accuracy was very good. This would have been better if it were on a regular dish and not the group hibachi grill, thus, there are no deductions for this! The PQA value was above average overall. The quality of the food was magnificent and the quantity was abundant. The price however is a little higher, but it is expected when you have a teppanyaki chef preparing your meal right before your eyes while showing of his mastership. This visit was well worth it all!...
Read moreThis place is fantastic. We've known about it for years, but never came because we had a favorite of ours just across the border in TN. Since the other place has gone down a little in quality and atmosphere, we decided to give Mikado a shot.
Inside the place is fantastic, very big and open. Parking outside is ample as well.
We ALWAYS start off with a Kentucky Derby Roll...it's our go-to roll here and at the other spot. Each time we visit a place with sushi, we always look for a roll that's similar to this, but can't seem to find one. This one is good, ask for extra Eel and YumYum Sauce and you can't go wrong.
The salad and soup, while certainly not the star of the show are certainly good.
I ordered the filet (medium-rare) and shrimp, big fan of that surf & turf combo. Both are always cooked wonderfully, with the right amount of seasoning and the filet is cooked internally just right. Our chef tonight was spot on with the rice too! Not sure what his name is, but we've had him a few times and he's super consistent on everything he puts on that grill...and it is always delicious.
I only have two negative issues that don't really impact the five star rating...1. The masks that the staff wear make it really hard to hear because it's generally pretty loud in the hibachi area. 2. Our chef didn't put on much of a 'show'. I, personally, don't need the show...but I feel that's a big reason why many people come to these places.
Anyhow, if you've never been here, please get out there and get yourself a spot at the table. I, for one, think...
Read moreMe and my husband went last night and while the food was delicious, our experience was much less satisfying to say the least. We went out for a date night, and firstly we were seated right by the bathroom, our waitress disappeared after taking our order and we didnt see her for our entire meal after she dropped off our food. Keep in mind, we ordered $80 worth of food so we were a little annoyed we couldnt even get our drinks refilled. But then the worst part, we finally got ahold of our waitress to ask for the check and we received it some time after, and my husband put the card in the check and we waited for it to be picked up, which it was, and then we were given another check, and our card was gone. After my husband had to get up and retrieve my card from another confused table whose bill we had apparently paid, and followed the waitress to see about getting our bill fixed, it took so long I got up to see what the matter was and he STILL was waiting to get the woman who was handling the bills attention, she waves me over to see what she had done and starts explaining in a condescending manner about how she just added the extra onto our bill to make it the right anount and when I explained I had already been charged from my bank account for the first bill, to ensure she had not double charged us, she rolled her eyes at me and rudely explained she had not when I had simply been politely checking since there was all the confusion. Needless to say we were not happy, and will not be eating here for a...
