As a connoisseur of Middle Eastern cuisine I frequent Sahara in Oak Park quite often, particularly for lunch. Unfortunately one of my main gripes with this location is that far too often when I receive my carry out order one or more items is usually missing. On most occasions I just look over the error, and keep it moving, but today I found myself especially irritated, because this is the second time in a row that my carry out order was not right! Mind you that I am placing the order with the cashier right at the front counter as opposed to calling it in over the phone. I actually found myself quite irritated, and inflamed once I got back home to sit down and eat only to discover that with the exception of my small order of fries, and the soup that came with the lunch special sandwiches everything else pertaining to my order was wrong. My receipt clearly shows that my order was taken correctly by the cashier. However, instead of receiving the two Chicken Tika sandwiches that I ordered I was given two Chicken Shawarma sandwiches overflowing with garlic cream sauce in their place. Since I am allergic to garlic cream sauce I had to throw the two Chicken Shawarma sandwiches away. Lastly, missing completely was the small Sahara salad that I ordered. Needless to say, my lunch was ruined! Sahara this is no way to treat a loyal customer!!! UPDATE On 2/11/19 shortly after 11:30 a.m. I decided to pay Sahara in Oak Park a visit to take the owner up on his/her offer to remake my order. Upon explaining the situation to the cashier at the front counter (who by the way had a very nasty attitude), and showing her my original lunch order receipt as well as the owner's response to my complaint via my cellphone on Google reviews, she flippantly explained to me that there was nothing that she could do, and that only the manager (who usually comes in on Tuesday) had the power to give the go ahead to remake my order. She made absolutely no effort to call the manager on his cellphone or take it upon herself to go get someone else who might be able to better assist me with the predicament, which ultimately led to my immediate departure, totally frustrated, and utterly disgusted! This is the second time that a situation like this has occurred to me with this restaurant. It is safe to say that I will not be patronizing Sahara in Oak Park ever again!!! Sahara you just a lost a distinguished, and loyal customer!

🍽️ Sahara Restaurant, Oak Park: 👍👍👍👍 👎 Savor Middle Eastern Flavors at Sahara Restaurant in Oak Park, where diners have generally enjoyed their experience, with a few considerations to keep in mind. FOOD QUALITY👍: The Sahara Combo 2 was flavorful and satisfying, with the garlic sauce adding a nice touch. The meal was hearty, providing a solid representation of traditional Middle Eastern flavors. SERVICE & HOSPITALITY👍: The service at Sahara Restaurant was excellent, with our server, Danyala, being attentive and ensuring we had everything we needed throughout the meal. VALUE for MONEY👎: The lunch for two people came to approximately $50, including tips, which feels a bit expensive for the portion size and menu items. While the food is of good quality, the cost doesn’t quite match the value. AMBIENCE & CLEANLINESS👍: The restaurant offers a clean, welcoming atmosphere, enhancing the overall dining experience and making it comfortable for guests. LOCATION & ACCESSIBILITY👍: Conveniently situated in Oak Park, Sahara Restaurant is easily accessible, making it a solid choice for those craving Middle Eastern cuisine in the area. In summary, Sahara Restaurant in Oak Park provides a satisfying meal with quality food and great service. However, the value for money could be improved, as the pricing feels a bit high for the portion sizes. Despite this, the pleasant atmosphere and delicious food make it a worthwhile choice for diners.

I like the food at Sahara, however I find other areas below average. This particular location feels much more like a banquet hall vs. a local plaza restaurant. While the atmosphere looks nice the acoustics are very loud with a lot of echo (lots of hard flat surfaces in an open environment with little sound dampening). Having spent some time in the middle east I can say the styling is in par with upper end places you’d find in Iraq, Kuwait, or average in UAE. Upon entering it’s hard to figure out whether it’s seat yourself, order at counter, or a mix. This large restaurant has few people and a good sized staff, yet they were very slow to greet or even serve everything. I don’t want to speculate so I’ll simple call a spade a spade. Customer service needs improvement. Overall I found the food quality to be quite nice and tasty. I was surprised to see a specialized Iraqi rock cooked fish dish on the menu, Masgoof. I fondly remember that dish while working in Iraq. The $95 price tag was too steep for me. It seems like prices here have increased a lot…darn inflation. Instinctively I was planning on giving 4 stars, however the needs improvement customer service and loud atmosphere didn’t sit very well with me. It was simple math using the Google 5 scale Likert.

Dinner time and we decided on Sahara oak park. It’s a classic and have been coming here for years, since I was a kid. Placed a carry out for 3 orders of chicken lemon cream chop $25 an order plus an order of a large Greek salad no olives over the phone total $95.00. The guy I had placed the order with was very friendly and patient while placing the order. I had stated to the guy to please make sure that I had an adequate amount on lemon garlic sauce they put on the cream chop and a side of ranch for my salad , he stated it would cost $4 for the extra sauce for a $95 order . This is unacceptable and I made sure to leave the review while I was in the restaurant. The manager who decided to charge me the $4 is Rafid , no customer service skills and was very condescending even smirking when I asked what the charge was for? the $4 isn’t gonna keep you in business . I will make sure I call in during the day and make a complaint To the manager with a little business skills, as I know it would not fly . Rafid was on his high horse tonight but hopefully he encounters more people like myself willing to take time Out of their day to leave a review. Rafid you will learn word of mouth is the most powerful form Of advertisement. Hopefully nobody has to deal with this arrogant manager.

Thank you for the reply but the quality of your food isn’t what’s in question, if you read my review I gave you a 5 stars for food quality but the service is horrible . If he is doing his job by charging $4 for lemon garlic sauce for 3 orders of LEMON CHICKEN cream chop priced at $25 an order but NOT RANCH which should also be included given that I ordered a large Greek SALAD $15 and asked for ranch dressing and not Greek dressing then by all means keep charging your fee and watch your reviews light up and your revenue 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 you dropped the ball and you’re trying to defend it, you should be ashamed of yourself . You know the clientele you get on a daily basis don’t compare this order to a soup or salad order but it’s common with Arabs and Arab...

I gave a 2 star because I did not go to the restuatant but I did call yesterday to place a Order even after I read all the reviews just to make my own opion and I was told by a lady who answered that I could not place my order because they are closing Early!!! I worked in the restuarant industry along time and I worked with other Businesses also. And we are to take oders all the way until the time it says its closed. So if someone walked in at 11:55pm and we closed at Midnight we would still seat them! If someone called at 11:59pm we still took the order because it says we close at 12:00am. Now I did not call at that time it was a little earlier not much. But why say your open until 12am when you stop taking orders at 11:30pm. Say you close at 11:30pm Than. So I do believe some of these reviews Now. I may not agree with some of there points of views but I think they are not to far off! And I did read the owners response and instead of defending your employees. obviously you were not around. I read where you said you have to look at the video's. Why don't you the Owner apologize to the costomers for there bad experience and offer them to come back. Not say it's "Slander" I can see why there are so many negative reviews because your part of the problem by not addressing the issues properly. And maybe you do need to have a meeting with your employess and get rid of the bad employess who is costing you bad reviews and loss of bussiness. Don't blame the paying costumers who keep you in business. Look at yourself and business because at the end of the day its your bussiness and your responsible on how your employess act. There are way to many same complaints on here to discredit and they are all strangers leaving almost the same comments. I was not surprised when I was told I could not order because they were closing early, Seems like that happens alot. Another costumer you lost. Remember business is all about word of mouth and internet these day's! And your New costumers do become repeat costumers so to lose any...
